As the Lead Physicist, you'll be responsible for the safe and effective delivery of all radiotherapy physics aspects at our Cromwell Hospital centre in Kensington, London. Acting as the Medical Physics Expert (MPE), you'll oversee dosimetry, calibration, and quality assurance (QA) for the Linear Accelerator (Linac) and associated imaging equipment. You'll collaborate closely with clinical oncologists, radiographers, dosimetrists, and engineers to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and safety in radiotherapy delivery. This role offers an exciting opportunity to combine handsâon scientific expertise with leadership in innovation and continuous improvement across GenesisCare's radiotherapy network.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the on-site Medical Physics Expert (MPE) for radiotherapy.
- Oversee and perform Linac calibration traceable to NPL Primary Standard.
- Lead and maintain quality assurance (QA) programmes for all radiotherapy and imaging equipment, including CT, MR and IGRT.
- Provide scientific and technical oversight for radiotherapy treatment planning and patient dosimetry.
- Collaborate with radiographers, oncologists and clinical staff to ensure safe and effective treatment delivery.
- Support and train clinical colleagues in QA, dosimetry, treatment planning and checking procedures.
- Liaise with engineers to resolve equipment issues and manage maintenance schedules.
- Contribute to service development projects, advancing QA methods, planning techniques and operational efficiency.
What You'll Have
Experience and skills:
- Extensive experience as a Radiotherapy Physicist, recognised as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE).
- Proven expertise in Linac QA and dose calibration.
- Experience with Varian LINACs and Aria (desirable).
- Proficiency in IMRT/VMAT planning techniques, with Eclipse TPS experience desirable.
- Strong understanding of CT scanner QA, patient dosimetry and plan checking.
- Excellent problemâsolving, communication and teamâworking skills.
- Confident in delivering technical training and presenting complex information clearly.
Qualifications And Knowledge
- HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist in Radiotherapy Physics.
- MPE status on the RPA2000 register (or working towards this).
- Commitment to maintaining Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
