The Role
As a Pharmacist – Oncology with us, you will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical expertise and contributing to patient care. You will facilitate the daily running of the Pharmacy Department, delivering a safe and effective medicines‑management service to all patients, staff, consultants and customers, thereby making a meaningful impact and developing your career.
What You’ll Do
- Provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy and medicine‑management service to oncology patients, ensuring consistent service in accordance with GenesisCare policies.
- Provide expert advice, at a highly specialist level, on pharmaceutical matters in oncology.
- Participate in the procurement, preparation, dispensing and distribution of medicine.
- Perform clinical checking of chemotherapy and final release to nursing staff.
Experience and Skills
- Experience in oncology and haematology.
- Experience in a hospital environment.
- Dispensing medicines and experience of medicine management in a hospital setting.
- Screening and checking systemic anti‑cancer therapy (SACT) prescriptions.
- Electronic prescribing.
- Experience of clinical audit and/or practice research.
- Experience of the production, promotion, implementation and monitoring of protocols.
- Patient management and counselling.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail – accurate recording of data, including patient drug history.
- Good organisational and planning skills.
- Able to plan and organise straightforward tasks and programmes, ensuring effective control of pharmaceutical stock.
- Able to communicate clearly with a range of people at differing levels across the hospital, deploying a range of techniques to do this effectively.
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Understanding of protocols and regimen development.
- Registered with GPhC.
- BSc Pharm or MPHARM.
- One year of preregistration training.
- Further post‑grad qualification in clinical pharmacy (e.g., Clinical Diploma).
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
- Member of BOPA.
- Independent Prescriber (desirable).
