About The Role

The Principal Engineer should be able to operate independently in performing Technical Safety & Risk studies and writing up results/reports, requiring some, but not intensive, input and support from the Study Manager. Experience with available industry modelling and analysis techniques and tools is preferred for this role. The work performed will be varied and activities include conceptual studies, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Detailed Design, operational support and decommissioning activities.

The role will be to perform Technical Safety & Risk assessments and analysis based on regulatory requirements, client standards, and drivers and be able to efficiently communicate these solutions through calculations, technical reports, and presentations. The Principal Engineer will be required to interface directly with clients, assist in marketing and business development activities, represent Genesis within industry working groups, and also work in a single-discipline capacity as well as be part of a multi-discipline team. The opportunity to work on Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) studies is also available should the new hire hold the relevant experience and desire.

Required experience

  • Proven experience in Technical Safety, Risk and Loss Prevention
  • Relevant Engineering degree
  • Experience in managing formal safety workshops including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL / LOPA
  • Experience in executing Risk studies, including Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), FERA, and EERA, and risk-based design including ALARP demonstration
  • Experience in Loss Prevention design including, but not limited to, Active and Passive Fire Protection, Blast Protection, F&G Systems, Hazardous Area Classification, and development of design drawings
  • Understanding of UK regulatory framework and Safety Case/COMAH etc development
  • Ability to lead junior engineers

Advantageous Experience

  • Experience working on conceptual engineering studies
  • Some understanding of Functional Safety PHAST, Flaresim, BowtieXP, Pipenet
  • Experience in CCUS, Hydrogen, Wind
