EAD Circuit Designer – Utility Telecoms
Location: Glasgow / Kirkintilloch (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Outside IR35 | 6-Month Contract | Immediate Start
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced EAD Circuit Designer to join a critical telecoms delivery programme for working for our client. This is not a standard network design role. You will be designing Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) circuits into electricity substation environments, where access constraints, EMI, Earth Potential Rise (EPR), and cabinet specifications are key considerations.
If you have experience designing BT/Openreach EAD or leased‑line circuits into complex or controlled sites, and you understand what it takes to deliver into utility environments, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design EAD / Ethernet access circuits for SPEN substation locations.
- Interpret BT/Openreach survey outputs, task sheets, and site constraints.
- Assess circuit feasibility considering EMI, EMC, EPR, fibre/copper suitability, and access limitations.
- Specify EMC cabinets (45U), ventilation, gland plates, cable entry, and site‑specific requirements.
- Produce practical HLD / LLD / implementation design packs and as‑built documentation.
- Identify and elevate design gaps, site‑readiness issues, and delivery risks early.
- Ensure designs are ready for Acceptance Into Live Support (AILS).
What You'll Bring
Mandatory Experience
- Hands‑on experience designing BT/Openreach EAD, Ethernet access, or leased‑line circuits.
- Strong understanding of the BT/Openreach delivery lifecycle (survey, order validation, provisioning, wayleaves, site readiness).
- Ability to produce implementation‑ready design packs (HLDs, LLDs, as‑built documentation).
- Experience interpreting site surveys, task sheets, and technical constraints.
- Strong documentation discipline and stakeholder coordination skills.
Highly Desirable
- Awareness of EMI / EMC requirements and Earth Potential Rise (EPR) risks in substation environments.
- Experience delivering telecoms into utilities, substations, power, rail, or industrial sites.
- Knowledge of telecoms cabinet / rack requirements, including EMC cabinets, gland plates, filters, and ventilation.
- Experience with fibre access design and circuit routing.
