Our client is at the forefront of innovative Marine engineering, specialising in the design, optimisation, and supply of decarbonisation solutions for the maritime industry. With their expertise in wing propulsion, foiling and flight control systems, they are leading the sustainability revolution within the maritime and shipping industry. From reducing fuel consumption – measured in tonnes per day – on ocean going ships through their sail technology and advanced efficiency optimisation methods, to enabling the growth of marine electrification with the implementation of their foiling and FOSS solutions. They are looking for a Lead Engineer in CFD to join the team and help lead this pioneering work. With a deep knowledge of hydrodynamics and aerodynamics, you will coordinate and oversee all the Computational Fluid Dynamics activities within the business and be instrumental to the design of their current and exciting future projects. Working alongside their industry leading experts you will take ownership of the design of aerodynamic devices, the design and optimisation of hydrofoils and hull forms.
Lead Engineer CFD Role:
- Plan and oversee all CFD work carried out by the team, from performance evaluation to design optimisation.
- Carry out concept designs and review other people concepts.
- Identify performance improvement opportunities within the constraints set forth in the projects.
- Ensure best CFD practices are applied in all the activities.
- Keep up-to-date with CFD technologies and analysis methodologies.
- Define the team’s technical roadmap in this area.
- Innovate to advance the team’s CFD simulation and data analysis capabilities.
- Ensure that all work is completed to an appropriate standard and level of detail, measured against contracted deliverables and tracked against agreed timelines.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.
Lead Engineer CFD Requirements:
- [Master’s/PhD] Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with focus on numerical methods.
- Substantive level of experience in the field of hydrodynamics for hulls and foils, and aerodynamics.
- Experience in using Siemens Star-CCM+ CFD code, and Siemens NX CAD software.
- Good understanding of the physics and principles associated with hydrodynamic design of hull forms from commercial ships to fast vessel, and of hydrofoils and with aerodynamic design of wings.
- Good knowledge of Python and Java.
- Good knowledge of optimisation techniques.
- Proven track record in delivering on complex projects and ability to work a fast-paced environment under requirements from other departments.
- Demonstrated ability to advance the technology state of the art and ability to generate innovative solutions.
- Openness to learning and embracing new tool sets and working methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to ensure work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timelines.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team on larger projects.
- Genuine interest in innovative ideas and technologies for decarbonisation in the maritime industry.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
