As a result of growing demands for our client’s range of products focusing on zero emissions and an increasing number of exciting development programmes working on diesel, electric and hybrid technology, they are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a substantial player within the industry. The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for developing, designing, and documenting electrical systems for locomotives and associated equipment. Reporting to the Principle Electrical Engineer, this role ensures that all electrical designs meet technical specifications, industry standards, safety requirements, and project timelines. The role involves close collaboration with mechanical engineers, manufacturing, and project teams to deliver reliable and maintainable electrical solutions. Electrical Design Engineer Role: • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system layouts in accordance with project requirements and engineering standards. • Design and specify electrical components, panels, and systems, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards. • Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to integrate electrical designs with overall product architecture. • Support prototype development, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems. • Review and update technical documentation, drawings, and bill of materials. • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving electrical design or system issues during manufacturing, testing, and field service. • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by proposing design optimizations and standardization. • Ensure accurate reporting of project progress and adherence to timelines. • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, standards, and emerging electrical technologies. Electrical Design Engineer Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline. • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical design, preferably within locomotives, heavy machinery, or industrial equipment. • Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) and Microsoft Office Suite. • Strong understanding of electrical systems, control systems, PLCs, and related standards. • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations for electrical systems. • Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. • Technical expertise in electrical design and system integration. • Ability to manage multiple design tasks and meet project deadlines. • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety. • Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
