Software Design Engineer in Branston

As the Software Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software systems supporting locomotive products and associated equipment. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will contribute to new product development, system upgrades, and ongoing technical support, ensuring software solutions meet functional, safety, and quality requirements. This role requires close collaboration with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering teams. Software Design Engineer Role: * Design, develop, and maintain software for embedded systems, control systems, and diagnostic applications. * Produce software architectures, specifications, and detailed design documentation in line with engineering standards. * Implement, test, and debug software to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with requirements. * Participate in system integration, validation, and commissioning activities. * Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of software with hardware systems. * Support fault investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to software issues. * Ensure software development adheres to applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards. * Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including coding standards, development processes, and toolchains. * Provide technical input to engineering reviews, estimates, and project schedules. * Ensure software revisions are tracked and documented across the company fleet of machines. * Instrumental in developing, implementing and maintaining telematic data using IoT cloud-based solutions when remotely monitoring machine operational performance, safety and reliability. Software Design Engineer Requirements: * Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. * Minimum of 5 years’ experience in software design and development, preferably within industrial, transportation, or embedded systems environments. * Proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python, Parker ICAN or similar). * Experience with embedded systems, real-time operating systems, or control software. * Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, version control, and configuration management. * Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. * Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, reliable software. * Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary engineering teams. * Structured and methodical approach to software design and documentation. * Willingness to support field issues and continuous product improvement. * Ability to integrate and collate telematics data and cloud based IoT systems.
