Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Branston

As Senior Electrical Design Engineer you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and technical delivery of electrical systems for locomotives and associated equipment. Reporting to the Principal Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and ensure that designs meet functional, safety, manufacturability, and quality requirements. You will play a key role in guiding engineering activities across projects, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating closely with manufacturing, operations, and project teams to support new build, refurbishment, and aftermarket initiatives. Senior Electrical Design Engineer Role: * Lead the design and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system layouts in accordance with project requirements and engineering standards. * Produce and review technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and manufacturability. * Design and specify electrical components, panels, and systems, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards. * Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering change control processes throughout the product lifecycle. * Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to integrate electrical designs with overall product architecture. * Support prototype development, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems. * Review and update technical documentation, drawings, and bill of materials. * Assist in troubleshooting and resolving electrical design or system issues during manufacturing, testing, and field service. * Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by proposing design optimizations and standardization. * Ensure accurate reporting of project progress and adherence to timelines. * Maintain knowledge of industry trends, standards, and emerging electrical technologies. * Provide technical leadership and mentorship to electrical design engineers within the team. * Any other duties within your capabilities as directed by line management and the Engineering Manager. Senior Electrical Design Engineer Requirements: * Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. * Demonstrable experience in electrical engineering, ideally within locomotives, rail, or heavy industrial equipment. * Proven expertise in the design, integration, and testing of complex electrical systems. * Strong knowledge of control systems, propulsion, auxiliary systems, power distribution, and industry standards. * Experience leading engineering teams and mentoring technical staff. * Proficiency in electrical design software, simulation tools, and engineering documentation practices. * Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. * Strong ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic engineering environment. * Technical leadership and mentoring capability. * Strategic thinking with attention to detail and quality. * Collaborative mindset with effective cross-functional teamwork skills. * Proactive problem-solving and risk mitigation skills. * Divisional and Functional Heads.
