Main duties of the job

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Dispensary Manager to lead day-to-day dispensary operations, drive team performance, and maintain the highest standards of patient safety and governance.

Job responsibilities

  • As Dispensary Manager, you will take full responsibility for the operational management of the dispensary, ensuring prescriptions are processed safely, efficiently, and in line with GPhC standards and NHS regulations.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee all dispensary operations, ensuring smooth workflow and service delivery.
  • Manage prescription volumes within a distance selling model, ensuring turnaround times are met.
  • Optimise processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Clinical Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with GPhC standards, SOPs, and NHS contractual requirements.
  • Maintain audit-ready records and support regulatory inspections (e.g. CQC, GPhC).
  • Oversee incident reporting, dispensing error investigations, and learning implementation.
  • Ensure controlled drugs and prescription governance requirements are met.

Quality & Patient Safety

  • Champion a culture of patient-centred care and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor service quality, responding to patient feedback and complaints.
  • Support the safe handling of remote patient queries (phone, email, digital platforms).

Stock & Systems Management

  • Manage inventory control, ordering, and stock accuracy.
  • Oversight of use of EPS and digital pharmacy systems.
  • Ensure secure data handling and GDPR compliance.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience working in a UK pharmacy setting (community or distance selling).
  • Proven experience in a senior dispensary or supervisory/management role.
  • Strong understanding of UK pharmacy law, dispensing processes, and governance requirements.
  • Experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience within a distance selling pharmacy setting.
  • Experience with audits, SOP writing, or service development.
  • Knowledge of high-volume dispensing operations.

Experience

  • Strong leadership and people management capability.
  • Excellent organisational and operational planning skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
