Job Title: Accounts Manager/Accounts Senior (Dependant on experience)

About the Role
We are a well-established accounting practice committed to providing high-quality accountancy, financial, tax and business advisory services to our clients. Our clients come from all kinds of businesses, but we also have a special relationship with those in the medical and healthcare profession. We are looking for an Accounts Manager/Accounts Senior to work in our medical team to help manage our healthcare clients. These clients include GP practices, GP partners, salaried GPs, hospital consultants, locum doctors, dentists, and other healthcare providers.
As an Accounts Manager/Accounts Senior, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of healthcare clients ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality accounting, taxation, and advisory services. You will build long-term relationships with clients, oversee the work of junior team members, and contribute to the continued growth of the practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of GP practices, GP partners, consultants, locum doctors, and other healthcare businesses.
- Act as a point of contact for clients.
- Build trusted relationships through proactive communication and excellent service.
- Understand each client's financial objectives and provide practical commercial advice.
- Ensure all client deadlines are met.
Accounts & Financial Reporting
- Review statutory accounts prepared by junior staff.
- Prepare and review annual accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders.
- Review management accounts and financial reports.
- Assist clients with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Analyse financial performance and provide recommendations.
Tax Compliance & Planning
- Review corporation tax, partnership, and personal tax returns.
- Advise on tax planning opportunities.
- Support GP partners with partnership tax matters.
- Assist consultants and self-employed medical professionals with income tax planning.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations.
Provide specialist advice relating to:
- GP partnerships
- NHS Pension Scheme implications
- Primary Care Networks (PCNs)
- Practice finances
- GP partner drawings
- NHS superannuation
- Practice profitability
- Business structuring
- Incorporation considerations
Practice Management
- Monitor workflow across the team.
- Review work completed by accountants and trainees.
- Coach and mentor junior staff.
Business Development
- Identify opportunities to expand client services.
- Support new client onboarding.
- Develop referral relationships.
- Promote the firm's specialist healthcare expertise.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards.
- Ensure adherence to AML regulations.
- Maintain high professional and ethical standards.
- Support quality assurance reviews.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Newly ACA / ACCA qualified (or qualified by experience with significant practice experience).
- Minimum 5 years' experience within a UK accountancy practice.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge.
- Excellent knowledge of UK tax legislation.
- Experience working with medical or healthcare clients.
- Knowledge of GP partnerships.
- Understanding of NHS primary care.
- Experience with consultant and locum accounting.
- Knowledge of NHS Pension Scheme reporting.
- Experience preparing partnership accounts.
- Familiarity with PCNs and GP federations.
Technical Skills

Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an experienced practice accountant with strong client management skills and a genuine interest in supporting medical professionals. They will enjoy building long-term relationships, leading a team, and delivering high-quality advice that helps healthcare businesses thrive. Experience with GP partnerships, consultants and NHS-related accounting would be highly advantageous, although candidates with strong practice experience and a willingness to develop specialist expertise will also be considered.
