General Intelligence Holdings is an AI-native company that buys established UK accounting and bookkeeping practices and rebuilds how they operate from the inside with AI. Our platform — Ledger — is the engine that does it. It's the model General Catalyst, Thrive and others are scaling across services in the US and Europe, and no one is doing it in UK accountancy yet. I'm looking for a CTO to own Ledger and lead engineering.

Why now: Services is a ~$16tn global market against ~$1tn for software, and UK accountancy is one of its most fragmented corners — thousands of sub-£3m owner-managed firms, an ageing partner base with no succession path, and Making Tax Digital forcing every one of them to change how they file. AI can now do a serious share of the actual work. The opportunity is to consolidate those firms and re-rate their margins by automating the work behind the scenes — then compound, not flip.

What already exists (this isn't a blank page):

  • An origination engine that has scanned 40,000+ UK firms, scored them for succession and AI-readiness, and surfaced 8,300+ high-conviction acquisition targets — already in live outreach, with our first seller in conversation.
  • A working prototype of Ledger, including a real UK tax engine with a self-improving accuracy/eval loop, built to validate the thesis.
  • A clear path to institutional capital: built to the playbook tier-1 investors are actively funding, with a board and IC already in place.

We can get a product 80% of the way there. I need a CTO who owns the other 20% — and everything after it.

What you'll own:

  • The architecture: turning the Ledger prototype into a secure, multi-tenant, production-grade platform that real regulated firms run live client data through.
  • The AI: agentic accounting/VAT/bookkeeping workflows with human-in-the-loop review, source-linked outputs, and an eval/measurement layer that proves automation rates honestly — core to our edge, because we measure what others won't.
  • The data flywheel and model strategy: turning every firm General Intelligence Holdings acquires into proprietary data that compounds Ledger's accuracy.
  • Integrations: Open Banking, Xero/Sage/QuickBooks/FreeAgent, HMRC MTD/Agent Services APIs.
  • The team: hiring and leading engineering as Ledger scales across acquired practices.

Who you are:

  • A hands-on senior/staff/principal engineer or a prior startup CTO who still ships. You'll write code from day one, not just manage.
  • A track record of production AI/LLM systems — ideally at a high-growth fintech, applied-AI company, or a top-tier engineering org (the kind of pedigree that makes investors comfortable on the technical seat).
  • Comfortable taking 0→1 prototypes to scale, operating with ambiguity and speed.
  • Bonus: fintech/regtech/accounting-data background; eval infrastructure, multi-tenant SaaS, or sensitive-data compliance experience.

You don't need to know accounting. I'll bring the domain and the deals; you bring the engineering.

What's on offer:

  • Significant equity and full ownership of the technology — title, voice, and a real stake in the outcome.
  • The chance to build a category-defining company in a market with a hard regulatory tailwind and a clear institutional funding path, working directly with a two-time founder.

Logistics: UK-based, regular London presence; flexible/hybrid otherwise. Full-time.
