General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAVs. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.

We are hiring Electronics (Hardware) Engineers to work within our avionics product development teams, developing a range of product solutions to meet the needs of new and advanced avionic platforms. The role requires development activities across the product development lifecycle from conceptual design, requirements capture and analysis through to system integration and commissioning.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate an understanding of one or more of the aspects listed below:

  • Analog Circuit Design: Proficiency in designing analog circuits, including amplifiers, filters and oscillators.
  • Digital Circuit Design: Proficiency in designing digital circuits, including logic gates, flip-flops and state machines.
  • Simulation Tools: Experience with simulation software like SPICE, Cadence, or Mentor Graphics.
  • Microprocessors and Microcontrollers: Experience with microprocessor and microcontroller architecture and programming.
  • PCB Design: Knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) layout and design.
  • Signal Integrity: Understanding of signal integrity and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) principles.
  • Analog-to-Digital Conversion: Familiarity with ADCs, DACs, and mixed-signal design.
  • Power Management: Skills in designing power supply circuits and managing power distribution.
  • Testing and Debugging: Proficiency in using oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and other test equipment.

To be successful in the role you will demonstrate:

  • A track record in the design and commissioning of electronic circuitry.
  • High levels of motivation, integrity and professionalism.
  • Flexibility, innovation and commitment to delivery.
  • A degree in an electronics related subject would be advantageous, however relevant experience in a professional engineering environment is important.
  • Some development experience in the avionics, aerospace or naval systems industry would be preferred, but not essential.

This role has a salary of between £36,000 and £45,000 plus our flexible benefits package. We are open to this role being spent with time working from home and in the office (hybrid - typically 3 days working in office) on a weekly basis or fully in our offices.
