Description
General Dynamics Land Systems is seeking a full-time Production Support Quality Engineer to join our Engineering Team in Merthyr, South Wales. The role offers a salary of £36,000 to £45,000, depending on experience and potential. The ideal candidate will have a proactive mindset and a desire for professional growth.
The successful candidate will support production, integration, and testing activities at the GDUK Merthyr facility, working closely with Engineering, supply chain, and Manufacturing teams. A key responsibility is managing non-conformities, conducting root cause analysis, and developing corrective actions to resolve issues while supporting the program through effective containment.
This role may require travel to various locations as needed.
Typical Weekly Activities
- Lead and drive production non-conformances into RCCA A3 format to resolve quality issues.
- Analyze non-conformances during production with cross-functional teams, addressing problems and establishing trends and root causes, including subcontractor non-conformances.
- Generate and manage PFMEAs as part of a cross-functional team.
- Investigate non-conforming products, services, and processes, and audit the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop new processes and support tailoring existing processes to meet program and contractual needs.
- Collaborate with managers and peers across support functions for production quality activities.
- Provide support and advice to Production Managers, Engineering, and other areas.
- Participate in key reviews as scheduled.
- Represent the department in customer interactions, data presentation on-site and at customer locations.
- Promote quality awareness within the organization.
- Prepare weekly and monthly production quality metrics and reports.
- Perform additional duties as required to support business needs.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience in root cause investigation (A3/8D/5Y).
- HNC or higher qualification in Engineering/Quality discipline.
- Ability to provide mechanical solutions.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of PFMEA and Control Plans.
- Experience with Fabricated Vessels and assemblies.
- Use of FARO arm and/or CMM.
- Knowledge of Welding standards and inspection abilities.
- Good understanding of ISO9001:2015.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to interpret assembly drawings.
- Experience with 3D CAD software (Creoview, Pro E).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Security clearance up to Secret level or capable of obtaining it.
- Flexibility in working hours and willingness to travel.
- Quality Engineering experience.
- Qualified Internal Auditor (preferred but not essential).
Desirable Skills
- Background in military vehicle systems engineering.
- Familiarity with British Army tracked and wheeled vehicles.
- Experience working in multicultural, multilingual teams.
- Knowledge of standards and legislation for military platforms.
