Job Summary
Supports general business operations by providing various transportation and related support activities as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines in the Transportation Services and Administration Function

General Profile
- Requires full proficiency in a range of technical processes or procedures through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience
- Completes a variety of atypical assignments
- Works within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments
- Works with a limited degree of supervision, with oversight focused only on complex new assignments
- Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience
- Performs manual tasks according to established procedures
Essential Functions
- Operates a large or heavy truck that transports cargo to and from specified locations on time and according to schedule.
- Operates vehicle safely and responsibly, adhering to all DOT and company safety regulations.
- Conducts routine inspections prior to departure to ensure the vehicle is in optimal condition.
- Manages appropriate cargo documentation and provides necessary paperwork upon the delivery of goods.
- Coordinates the loading and unloading of the truck, verifying cargo and ensuring items are properly stored and secured.
- Maintains contact with dispatcher to provide status updates, clarify special instructions, and notify about delays or issues during transport.
Required Qualifications
- Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 5-7 years\β experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
- Other: CDL-A with hazmat endorsement required
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred education and experience: Associate\βs Degree
- Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred
- Knowledge, skills & abilities: Shipping Documentation. DOT Regulations. Loads/Secures /Unloads Cargo. Maintain Travel Logs. Transport Cargo. Vehicle Safety Checks. Vehicle Inspection.
Physical Requirements
- Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
- Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
- May be requested to work a different shift.
- Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
- This position is Safety-Sensitive.
Travel Requirements
More than 50% travel likely.
