Job Description

As a Junior Systems Integration Engineer, you will support the integration, configuration, test, and verification of hardware and software components within complex tactical communications and information systems.

The role will provide development opportunities across the system engineering lifecycle, including lab-based integration, troubleshooting, formal test execution, reporting, and support to field activities.

You will work as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team, contributing to the delivery of system integration and test activities that meet customer needs, quality standards, and programme timescales.

Key Responsibilities

A Junior Systems Integration Engineer would typically

  • Support product and system integration activities for tactical C4I / Tac CIS solutions in laboratory and controlled environments.
  • Assist with the setup, configuration, and commissioning of hardware, software, and network components used in integration and test activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of integration and test plans, procedures, scripts, and supporting documentation.
  • Execute defined integration and test activities under guidance, capturing results accurately and maintaining associated evidence.
  • Support verification, validation, and assurance activities by collecting test data and helping produce reports and technical summaries.
  • Investigate technical issues and defects using a structured fault-finding approach, escalating where appropriate.
  • Assist with build, test, and process automation activities, as well as continuous improvement of integration and test methods.
  • Work with engineers and other stakeholders to support design maturity by feeding back observations from lab integration and test execution.
  • Maintain clear, well-structured technical records using approved engineering tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrate an ability to want to learn and develop and take on more responsibility as knowledge and experience grows.
  • Understand the importance of deadlines and adapt to delivering tasks within programme timescales.
  • Support field-based trials, experimentation, or acceptance activities when required.

Typical day-to-day activities may include

  • Building and configuring system rigs, virtual machines, servers, or network elements for integration tasks.
  • Running test procedures and recording outcomes, anomalies, and observations.
  • Performing first-line technical troubleshooting across software, hardware, and network interfaces.
  • Supporting the production of defect reports, test reports, and acceptance evidence.
  • Assisting with the use of engineering lifecycle tools such as DOORS, RQM, RTC, ALM, or equivalent platforms.
  • Collaborating with more experienced engineers to understand system behaviour, interfaces, and integration risks.

Qualifications

Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Networking, or a related discipline.
