General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look‑out for a full‑time Material Recovery Lead to join our established team. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £36,000 to £45,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally.

Joining an established team based at our Merthyr (South Wales) facility, you will work across a range of stakeholders responsible for the planning and execution of the Material Harvesting & Uplift team activities for General Dynamics vehicles. Providing oversight, training, and hands‑on workflow to support activities that deliver urgent material supply and manage teams responsible for vehicle uplift.

On a typical week you would be responsible for:

  • Planning and executing the acquisition of material and the uplift of previously manufactured GDLSUK AJAX fighting vehicles, ensuring all steps are completed so that parts and vehicles enter the next phase of activity.
  • Organising, developing and executing strategies to efficiently complete work tasks via teams, coordinating cross‑departmentally to ensure priorities are achieved for internal customers.
  • Ensuring accurate incident capture and migration into DRACAS, MRP, MRB, or other toolsets for business‑wide analysis and long‑term corrective action.
  • Supporting reviews and business update requirements as needed.
  • Providing daily reports to the line manager on progress or impediments, and preparing presentation material—including metrics, status reports, and data analysis—for management review and delivery.
  • Maintaining 100% focus on safety and the quality of the delivered work, fostering a culture of continual improvement, and actively seeking feedback from the wider stakeholder community and the customer.

Requirements

  • Experience with the commissioning of vehicle systems and test equipment, and expertise on tracked armoured vehicles as a driver and commander.
  • Holding a H licence for tracked vehicles.
  • Proven experience in Six Sigma methodologies; certification preferred.
  • Work experience with inspection and testing of C4I communication subsystems fitted on AJAX fleet, including predictive testing and troubleshooting of components and systems to locate defects.
  • Providing detailed inspection results and material‑related information to key stakeholders.
  • Experience harvesting AJAX platform components and performing independent functions in remote non‑plant locations.
  • Past direct QA inspection experience.
  • Working knowledge of the DRACAS process and associated tools.
  • Proven track record of complex vehicle manufacturing and delivery programmes.
  • Experience of supply‑chain processes to meet the delivery demands of complex programmes.
  • Experience of military vehicle systems.
  • Ability to liaise with and present information to multi‑disciplined and multi‑national team members.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written skills.
  • Hold or be capable of holding security clearance up to the level of SECRET.
  • Excellent team‑working abilities.
  • Ability to communicate at senior levels.
