General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look‑out for a full‑time Senior Software Test Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based in Oakdale. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £45,600 to £57,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally. Joining an established team, the successful candidate will be a key player within the software development team working closely with systems engineering and development teams to verify new and modified capabilities for the AJAX Electronic Architecture. The role spans the full software test life‑cycle encompassing test requirements derivation, test design analysis, implementation and deployment, with a strong emphasis on automation. This hybrid working role also provides flexibility allowing the successful candidate to work up to 2 days a week from home.
Responsibilities
- Develop manual and automated test cases to verify the EA software function and performance against its use cases and derived requirements (QA Testing).
- Design and implementation of test scripts, utilities and harnesses that support automation of the test process.
- Support software development team via the undertaking of product level and QV (black box) testing of the developed products.
- Co‑operate with the software development teams in the investigation, diagnosis and reporting of software faults.
- Preparation of written test specifications and test reports, including test metrics.
- Contribute to driving best practice and continuous improvement within Software Test discipline.
- Assist in the review and assessment of additions and alterations to functional and non‑functional requirements captured in the Software Requirements Model (SRM), establishing and maintaining their testability.
Qualifications
- Honors Degree in EE, CS, Physics or equivalent. Classification 2.1 or higher.
- Proven track record in software/system test or development environment.
- Engineering experience in a Software Development and/or Continuous Integration and Test environment.
- Defense / automotive / aerospace industry background.
- Familiarity with MilCAN bus technology.
- Understanding Ethernet networks and Internet Protocols.
- Data Distribution Service (DDS).
- Rhapsody or equivalent UML modelling tool.
- SVN configuration management tool.
- Experience of Keysight’s, Eggplant Test automation tools.
- Detailed understanding of version control and associated best practice.
- Proven background in test specification preparation based upon software requirement analysis captured both as use‑cases and discrete requirements.
- Strong background in CASE tools that support UML model development. With experience of IBM DOORS and Rhapsody an advantage.
- Experience of testing distributed real‑time systems that utilize Ethernet and IP open standards and protocols.
- Familiar with the software testing of embedded systems utilizing heterogeneous operating systems.
- Excellent English writing and speaking skills.
