General Dynamics is looking to hire a highly-motivated, best-in-class Senior HIL / SIL Engineer. This position will be responsible for the development, integration, and maintenance of HIL /SIL test systems, which shall include, but not be limited to, the following capabilities:

  • Simulation of synthetic driving environments (e.g., terrain, weather, lighting, position, obstacles, etc.)
  • Real-time physics-based plant simulation
  • Signal conditioning and fault injection
  • DAQ for CAN, Ethernet, 1553, RS-422, SSI, discrete analog, discrete digital, and other signal types
  • Support for various 3rd-party tools

Applicants should have the following skillset:

  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering:
    • DIGITAL CIRCUIT DESIGN: Digital signal conditioning; encoders; counters; sinking I/O; sourcing I/O; impedance matching; A/D; D/A; digital filters (IIR, LP, HP, BP, …); control logic; power; optical and galvanic isolation
    • ANALOG CIRCUIT DESIGN: Analog signal conditioning, analog filter design (LP, HP, BP, …), filter response, Nyquist sampling theory, aliasing, mitigation, resolver circuits, LVDT circuits, thermocouple circuits
    • SERIAL INTERFACE DESIGN: RS232, RS422/485, CAN, MIL-Std-1553B, Ethernet, SSI, SPI, I2C, transceivers
    • FPGA DESIGN: Sensor emulation, digital filters, serial devices, high speed logic control
    • MICRO-CONTROLLERS: Design custom micro-controller applications
    • AC/DC POWER: AC And DC power circuits; circuit protection; 3VDC, 5VDC, 28VDC, 120VAC; 240VAC - knowledge of working with high voltage
    • SIGNAL ANALYSIS: Frequency and duty cycle generation and measurement; Fast Fourier Frequency analysis; noise analysis; filter types and filter performance
  • Cable/Harness Design:
    • CABLE DESIGN KNOWLEDGE / CALCULATIONS: Wire types, stranding, usage, insulation, frequency characteristics, sizing, current, voltage, power, thermal, propagation delays, physical strength, fill, weight
    • CABLE SHIELDING, GROUNDING, EMI DESIGN: Shielding, grounding, terminating, EMI
    • CABLE MIL CONNECTOR KNOWLEDGE: Military connector knowledge - receptacles, plugs, materials, contacts, keying, clocking
    • CABLE SIGNAL ANALYSIS KNOWLEDGE: Signal analysis - R/L/C effects; noise analysis – filtering; length - propagation delays; trunk lengths; stub lengths
  • Electrical Drawings:
    • ELECTRICAL LAYOUT: Design electrical layout drawings
    • ELECTRICAL CABLE: Design electrical cable drawings
  • Networks:
    • ETHERNET NETWORKS: Switches; hubs; network topologies; analysis methods and tools
    • CAN BUS NETWORKS: CAN bus design; communication; analysis methods and tools
    • SERIAL NETWORKS: MIL-STD-1553B; RS232; RS422/485; SPI; I2C; SSI - analysis methods and tools
    • VIDEO: RS170; SDI; HDMI; DVI; VGA - analysis methods and tools
    • TIME-SENSITIVE NETWORKING: Switches; time reservation; CUC / CNC; analysis methods and tools
  • Military Vehicle Knowledge:
    • MILITARY VEHICLE POWER: Knowledge of military vehicle power systems and how to integrate and test
    • MILITARY VEHICLE MOBILITY: Knowledge of military vehicle power systems and how to integrate and test
