The Environmental Health and Safety Staff Specialist opening is a current vacant position at General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada. The base salary hiring range for this position is $80,800 to $101,000 per year. Once in the role, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through the full salary range based on performance. This range reflects the base salary only and does not include additional components of our total compensation package, such as our incentive award program and other rewards like health benefits, employee profit‑sharing, retirement savings, and more. Key Job Elements- Identify and resolve safety hazards and risks, environmental aspects and impacts
- Conduct incident investigations and Loss Control meetings
- Maintain, audit and support the ISO 14001 and 45001 Management systems
- Develop and communicate environmental, health and safety procedures
- Co‑chair the Joint Health and Safety committee, provide recommendations, guidance and education to the committee
- Lead environmental, health and safety improvement initiatives
- Provide support in the resolution of safety and environmental issues
- Perform audits and safety inspections in the workplace
- Develop and maintain general knowledge of existing and proposed regulations
- Develop, coordinate and conduct EHS training in a group setting
- Administer compliance tracking programs and record‑keeping systems
- Update EHS procedures and other EHS program documentation as required
- Lead the issue‑resolution process related to near‑miss and injury investigations; develop detailed reports based on root cause analysis, recommend solutions, assist in implementation of corrective actions, and follow up where required
- Active involvement and/or leadership of various committees on‑site (e.g., Wellness, Whole System Business Model (WSBM), JHSC, etc.)
- Create job‑specific safety procedures based on research and feedback from cross‑functional team meetings
- Assist with ergonomic, industrial hygiene projects, industrial training coordination, WSIB and return‑to‑work processes and other safety initiatives as required
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders as well as external organizations
- Promote various safety and wellness initiatives
- University degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in the environmental, occupational health and safety field within a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of Environmental Health & Safety legislation
- Ability to travel (5% Canada) and (5% US & International) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
- Diploma or certificate in Health and Safety
- Working towards a Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or similar designation
- Experience with implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems
- Experience dealing with outside governing agencies (Ministry of Labour, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board)
- Experience working in a unionized environment
