The Gender Plus Hormone Clinic provides specialist hormone-related clinical reviews and psychosocial clinical appointments for people exploring or undergoing gender-affirming hormone therapy. The Hormone Clinic operates from multiple bases across our network, and this post can be linked to any of the UK sites.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Clinical Work

  • Act as a designated clinician for hormone clinic review appointments, working alongside the Lead Psychosocial Clinical Nurse Specialist, and/or other senior clinicians.
  • Conduct structured risk assessments and develop appropriate, evidence-based risk management plans.
  • Communicate care plans clearly and compassionately to service users.
  • Coordinate care and liaise with other professionals involved in a service user’s care.
  • Prepare and complete clinical letters and reports to a high professional standard.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professionally appropriate clinical records.
  • Contribute to clinical discussions and MDT meetings.

Risk Assessment and Safeguarding

  • Identify and respond appropriately to risk, safeguarding concerns, and acute mental health needs.
  • Escalate concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Liaise with external professionals and statutory services as required.

Care Coordination and Pathway Support

  • Support service users through their gender-affirming care pathway.
  • Work closely with endocrinology colleagues to ensure integrated, seamless care.
  • Provide psychoeducation and information to service users and their families.

Research, Audit, and Service Development

  • Assist with data collection, audit, and service evaluation activities.
  • Support the team in reviewing and improving clinical pathways.

Professional Development and Supervision

  • Maintain current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Engage actively in regular clinical and management supervision.
  • Participate in team meetings and CPD activities.

  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the specific needs and experiences of trans, non-binary, and gender diverse individuals.

General Duties

  • Maintain NMC registration and comply with revalidation requirements.
  • Comply with all service policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Attend statutory and mandatory training as required.

Person Specification

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
  • Experience in mental health nursing either as a qualified or newly qualified RMN.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures for adults and/or young people.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive clinical and risk assessments in a sensitive and professional manner.
