About the Programme
Ready to kick‑start your career in Engineering and learn the basic skills to get you one step closer to an apprenticeship? The Step in2 Apprenticeship Programme is a fully funded, part‑time opportunity designed to give you real hands‑on experience and the essential skills employers are looking for. This programme helps you build confidence, gain qualifications, and get hands on workshop experience—all while preparing you for an apprenticeship, further study, or even a future job. You can also work towards achieving Maths and English qualifications (if needed) and earn industry‑recognised Engineering certificates along the way.
Duration
The programme typically runs from September to July.
Location
You’ll split your time between:
- In‑centre learning at one of our Gen2 Skills Centres in Workington, Carlisle, or Furness
- Work experience placements with local employers, giving you a real feel for the industry.
What You’ll Learn
You’ll take part in a range of practical and employability‑based activities, including:
- Completing 6 Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) units
- Developing your Employability Skills
- Working towards Level 2 English and Maths, if not already achieved
Who Can Apply
You can apply if you are:
- Aged 16–18 by September 2026
- Aged 19–24 and have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
