About the Programme
Ready to kick-start your career in Engineering and learn the basic skills to get you one step closer to an apprenticeship? The Step in2 Apprenticeship Programme is a fully funded, part-time opportunity designed to give you real hands-on experience and the essential skills employers are looking for. This programme helps you build confidence, gain qualifications, and get hands-on workshop experience—all while preparing you for an apprenticeship, further study, or even a future job. You can also work towards achieving Maths and English qualifications (if needed) and earn industry-recognised Engineering certificates along the way.
Duration
The programme typically runs from September to July.
Location
You’ll split your time between:
- In-centre learning at one of our Gen2 Skills Centres in Workington, Carlisle, or Furness
- Work experience placements with local employers, giving you a real feel for the industry.
What You’ll Learn
You’ll take part in a range of practical and employability-based activities, including:
- Completing 6 Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) units
- Developing your Employability Skills
- Working towards Level 2 English and Maths, if not already achieved
Who Can Apply
You can apply if you are:
- Aged 16–18 by September 2026, or
- Aged 19–24 and have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
No previous experience is needed—just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and an interest in Engineering!
