H & H Group PLC are looking to recruit a Level 3 Machinist Apprentice to join their team for an immediate start!
The H&H Group operates as a holding company with its head office based in Carlisle, Cumbria and a heritage which can be traced back to the 1870’s.
Overall Job Purpose
To develop the practical skills, technical knowledge and safe working behaviours required to become a competentMulti-Skilled Maintenance Officer. Working under appropriate supervision, the apprentice will support the monitoring,maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment and machinery across Harrison & Hetherington Group sites while completingthe agreed apprenticeship training programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with monitoring facilities and working conditions across Group sites, reporting defects, hazards and maintenanceneeds promptly to the Facilities Manager or supervising colleague.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance tasks within the apprentice’s level of training, competence andauthorisation.
- Support the inspection, servicing, repair and safe operation of Group-owned equipment and machinery.
- Learn to identify when equipment or facilities require repair, replacement or specialist contractor support, and provideaccurate information to the Facilities Manager.
- Assist with obtaining information for tenders and quotations where external contractors or replacement equipment maybe required.
- Maintain accurate records relating to jobs completed, materials used, service activity and the allocation of materials across the Group.
- Assist with monitoring stock levels of maintenance consumables, tools and materials, and report replenishmentrequirements in good time.
- Use tools, equipment, materials and personal protective equipment correctly, safely and in accordance with training andinstructions.
- Keep work areas safe, tidy and secure, and ensure equipment is returned to its correct location after use.
- Communicate professionally with colleagues, site teams, contractors and other authorised personnel.
Health, Safety and Compliance
- Follow all relevant health and safety legislation, Group policies, site rules, risk assessments, safe systems of work andinstructions provided by the supervisor.
- Work only within the limits of current training, competence and authorisation, seeking guidance whenever unsure.
- Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, damaged equipment and environmental concerns without delay.
- Assist with maintaining service and inspection records for Group-owned equipment and highlight any compliance issuesto the Facilities Manager.
- Develop and maintain awareness of relevant industry standards, manufacturer guidance and compliance requirementsapplicable to the role.
Apprenticeship Training and Development
- Participate fully in the agreed apprenticeship programme, including workplace learning, formal training, reviews,assessments and the completion of required portfolio or evidence.
- Attend training sessions and study activities as arranged by the employer and training provider.
- Apply learning in the workplace and demonstrate progress against agreed knowledge, skills and behaviours.
- Maintain learning records and meet reasonable deadlines for coursework, evidence and assessments.
- Receive and act on constructive feedback from the Facilities Manager, workplace mentor and training provider.
- Work towards increasing levels of responsibility as training progresses and competence is confirmed.

- Prepared to complete the agreed apprenticeship training and assessments.
- Willing and able to work across Group sites as required, subject to appropriate travel arrangements.
Desirable
- Previous practical, workshop or site based experience.
- Awareness of basic health and safety principles.
- Basic experience using hand tools or maintaining equipment.
- Relevant school, college or vocational subjects.
- Full driving licence, where appropriate to the stage of the apprenticeship.
Maths & English GCSE (or equivalent) grade C/4 or above.
