The predicted salary is between 31500 - 38500 Β£ per year.

The role will primarily involve MIG welding and fabrication within a manufacturing environment, with responsibility for producing work to the required standards of quality, safety, productivity and workmanship.

Shift Pattern: 4 Day week

Key Responsibilities

  • Welding & Fabrication
    • Carry out MIG welding and fabrication activities in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
    • Read and accurately interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, Bills of Materials and production information.
    • Prepare, position, tack and weld components to the required specification and tolerances.
    • Select appropriate welding techniques, settings and methods for the materials and components being produced.
    • Carry out associated fabrication activities including cutting, grinding, dressing and preparation where required.
    • Ensure completed welds and fabricated components meet the required standards for quality, appearance and structural integrity.
    • Identify welding and fabrication issues and work with supervisors and colleagues to develop effective solutions.
  • Production & Delivery
    • Work efficiently to achieve agreed production targets, schedules and deadlines.
    • Ensure components are manufactured in the correct quantities and made available to support downstream processes.
    • Maintain a consistent level of productivity without compromising quality or safety.
    • Review work orders and production information to understand required materials, quantities and processes.
    • Identify recurring discrepancies in production or cutting information and raise these with the appropriate person.
    • Minimise unnecessary movement and handling of materials throughout the manufacturing process.
    • Support other reasonable production activities where required to meet operational demands.
  • Quality & Continuous Improvement
    • Take personal responsibility for the quality of work produced.
    • Check completed components against engineering drawings, specifications and Bills of Materials.
    • Ensure finished work is free from unacceptable weld spatter, excessive grinding marks, distortion and other workmanship defects.
    • Prevent substandard or incomplete work from progressing to the next stage of production.
    • Report quality issues, discrepancies and recurring defects promptly.
    • Work collaboratively with Production and Quality teams to resolve issues at source.
    • Identify opportunities to improve welding methods, efficiency, quality and material utilisation.
    • Maintain high standards of workmanship and contribute to a culture of right first time production.
  • Equipment, Materials & Workshop Standards
    • Carry out daily checks of welding equipment, tools and associated machinery.
    • Operate equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer instructions.
    • Report equipment faults, breakdowns or maintenance requirements promptly.
    • Maintain welding equipment, tools and work areas in a clean, safe and serviceable condition.
    • Ensure welding consumables, gas supplies and other production materials are appropriately managed.
    • Handle materials, components and equipment carefully to minimise damage and waste.
    • Use lifting equipment and material-handling equipment only where trained and authorised.
    • Maintain an organised workstation and ensure production areas are left clean, tidy and safe.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
    • Work in accordance with all company health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
    • Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of colleagues.
    • Wear and correctly use all required PPE.
    • Follow safe working practices when welding, cutting, grinding and handling materials.
    • Safely use gantry cranes, jib cranes, lifting slings and other lifting equipment where trained and authorised.
    • Follow lock-out/tag-out procedures where applicable.
    • Ensure gas cylinders and other hazardous materials are stored and handled safely.
    • Dispose of waste materials in accordance with company procedures.
    • Immediately report hazards, unsafe conditions, equipment defects, near misses or incidents.
    • Maintain a safe and orderly working environment at all times.

Essential Experience & Technical Knowledge

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in MIG welding.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience of welding in a heavy manufacturing / engineering environment.
  • Good practical understanding of MIG welding processes and techniques.
  • Ability to work accurately to drawings, specifications and production requirements.
  • Understanding of quality standards within a manufacturing environment.
  • Good awareness of workshop health and safety requirements.
