Reporting To: General Manager
Staff Reporting to the Jobholder: All workshop production staff, including Panel Technicians, MET Technicians, Paint Technicians, and Apprentices (through their agreed Mentor/Supervisor).
Main Purpose of Role
To manage and coordinate all workshop activities within the accident repair centre, ensuring repairs are allocated efficiently, completed to manufacturer and company standards, and delivered on schedule. The Workshop Controller ensures maximum productivity, high-quality output, and compliance with all health, safety, and industry regulations, while supporting staff development and operational excellence.
Main Tasks
Workshop Operations & Workflow
- Oversee and coordinate all repair processes, maintaining full visibility of each job from strip-down to final quality check.
- Allocate work to technicians based on skill, experience, workload, and job priority to optimise efficiency and productivity.
- Lead and participate in daily production meetings to review job progress, address delays, and **escalate** issues to the General Manager.
- Monitor workflow to identify and resolve technical, resource, or scheduling issues quickly.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all repairs are carried out in line with manufacturer repair methods, BS10125:2022 standards, and company quality procedures.
- Check that repair documentation, job cards, and management systems are updated accurately and promptly.
- Maintain oversight of apprentices’ work to ensure they are operating at the correct learning level under supervision.
Team Management & Staff Development
- Maintain discipline, professional standards, and productivity across the workshop.
- Support the development and training of workshop staff, encouraging continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Communicate effectively with VDAs, Customer Service teams, and other departments to ensure parts availability and repair planning.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure workshop tools, equipment, and machinery are maintained in good working order and compliant with safety regulations.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, waste management, environmental compliance, and safe working practices.
- Take responsibility for a safe, secure, and well-organised working environment in line with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
Other Duties
Due to the size and complexity of the establishment, you will undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties that are deemed to be within your capability, as directed by a senior manager of the group with whom you have a reporting relationship.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in workshop management within an accident repair centre, bodyshop, or automotive environment.
- Knowledge of repair processes, manufacturer repair methods, and BS10125:2022 quality standards.
- Strong organisational and workflow management skills.
- Ability to allocate work effectively and monitor productivity across a multi-skilled team.
- Experience in supervising and developing workshop staff, including apprentices.
- Awareness of health, safety, and environmental compliance in a workshop environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to resolve operational or technical issues efficiently.
Desirable
- Experience with workshop management software and digital job tracking systems.
- Knowledge of parts management, inventory control, and repair planning.
- Experience in continuous improvement initiatives within a workshop environment
Pay and Benefits
Salary will be discussed during the interview and will depend on experience and qualifications. The role includes site bonus opportunities.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in vehicle accident repairs is prefered.
Hours are 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday, 30-minute lunch break.
