MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:
Gemini Accident Repair Group are offering an exciting and unique opportunity for apprentice vehicle accident repair technicians to join their highly successful and growing organisation and attain a lifelong career. They will learn skills in car body, paint, mechanical and electrical.
MAIN TASKS:
A Multi-Skilled Vehicle Accident Repair Technician repairs all elements of a vehicle after it has taken some type of collision damage. This will involve learning the skills required to take an accident damaged vehicle through various stages of repair to the pre-accident condition. These fall into three main areas of skills training:
- MET - Mechanical, Electrical & Trim: Candidates will learn strip and refit processes of all main vehicle systems including air conditioning, vehicle alignment and Hybrid & Electric vehicle systems.
- Panel-repair: Candidates will learn to repair bodywork by replacing panels, filling defects and carrying out techniques such as welding, bonding and riveting, and correcting misalignment.
- Paint-surface repair: Candidates will learn how to prepare surfaces and carry out paint refinishing through techniques such as sealing, masking, priming, application of base coat & lacquer, repairing defects and polishing.
In addition to the above techniques, the employer will also provide successful candidates with additional training to achieve industry qualifications in the following techniques, throughout the programme:
- British Standard Welding Certificate
- Refrigerant Handler
- Electric and Hybrid Repair
- Senior Accredited Assessment
The post holder will also be required to complete any other tasks deemed by the line manager as appropriate in line with the role.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
5 GCSEs at grade A* to C/ 9 to 4 (or equivalent) including maths, English essential. Science and ICT are desirable.
LONG TERM COMPANY AIM FOR THE LEARNER:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the role holder will progress to full-time employment with the company.
PAY AND BENEFITS:
Hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday, 30-minute lunch break. (40 hours per week) over 18 the hours would be 42.5 hours a week 8:00am-5:00pm.

Pay:
- Under 18: Gemini First Year Apprentice Rate: £8.55, Gemini Second Year Apprentice Rate: £9.55
- 18 – 20yrs: Gemini First Year Apprentice Rate: £11.00, Gemini Second Year Apprentice Rate: £12.00
- Over 21: Gemini First Year Apprentice Rate: £13.21, Gemini Second Year Apprentice Rate: £14.21
We pay £1 above the National Minimum Wage for 1st Year Multiskilled Apprentices and £2 above the National minimum wage for 2nd Year Multiskilled apprentices. 2nd year rate occurs 12 months after the Gemini Apprenticeship start date. The wage rate is also governed by the Apprentice date of birth.
There will be another pay increase upon completion of your Level 3 Multi-Skilled Apprenticeship Programme. Once out of the apprenticeship programme, any future wage alterations will be at the discretion of your Site Manager, these will be based on experience, ability, accreditation & qualifications.
Bonus Criteria: Apprentices on the Multi skills programme can only be eligible for bonus if site hit their target plus the individual apprentice must have complied/completed/passed all the below criteria:
- Complete all set Onsite evidence journals – these must be submitted to training@geminiarc.co.uk the week prior to your college blocks.
- All College task sheets completed.
- All College tests/written assignments passed.
- Completed any College or Gemini feedback/hotel forms.
- Completed any feedback block report form.
- Achieved all expected Behaviour compliance with no exceptions - Inc. college and hotel.
- Meeting all Gemini company behaviours both concerning site and training department expectations.

This apprenticeship is work based learning therefore most of the time you will be working at the employer’s address. Depending on your training you will only need to attend college in Nottingham for initial assessments, enrolment and a few other rare occasions.

TRAINING TO BE PROVIDED:
Level 3 Accident Repair Technician apprenticeship standard. The programme lasts for 30 months. The training incorporates underpinning knowledge in partnership and managed by EMTEC Colleges. Throughout the duration of the programme the candidates will be expected to travel to EMTEC's training centre in Nottingham for 24 separate weeks to carry out skills training. The first block is one full week followed by individual one-week blocks (2 days online training, 2.5 days in centre training). Residential accommodation will be provided if required for the candidates.
Candidates will work towards achieving the Accident Repair Technician Apprenticeship Standard for the Automotive Bodyshop Industry at Level 3. They will also be required to study towards achieving level 2 maths and English functional skills if they do not already hold equivalent qualifications.
Regular visits to the dealership from EMTEC Vocational Learning Advisors will take place, who will observe all evidence opportunities that occur naturally in the workplace. Candidates will be expected to engage in self-directed learning outside of normal working hours, which will be monitored and tracked through an online e-portal. In addition to this, as part of the programme the employer is offering additional off the job training to achieve the following qualifications, in order to bring the candidate to the required skills level for Gemini ARC Multiskills Technicians.
The following additional qualifications will be included:
- British Standard Welding accreditation BS1140 & BS4872 covering the range of .5mm to 2.5mm material (to include IMI AOM009)
- MIG brazing
- Bonding & Riveting
- Refrigerant Handling EC842
- Electric & Hybrid Repair & Maintenance Senior Automotive Technician Accreditation IMI Level 3
