We are recruiting experienced Team Leaders to oversee staff teams supporting individuals with complex needs and significant behavioural challenges.

This role combines direct care, shift leadership, staff supervision, incident management and quality assurance. You will be responsible for supporting the safe and consistent implementation of care plans, risk assessments and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in complex care, strong leadership skills and the ability to make safe decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate care staff during shifts.
  • Support appropriate staff deployment within enhanced staffing arrangements, including 3:1, 4:1 and 5:1 support packages.
  • Monitor risks and ensure staff follow individual care plans and behavioural support strategies.
  • Identify behavioural triggers, early warning signs and appropriate escalation procedures.
  • Lead appropriate responses to incidents involving aggression, violence, absconding, self-injury or property destruction.
  • Prioritise de-escalation and ensure restrictive interventions are lawful, necessary, proportionate and authorised.
  • Ensure only appropriately trained and competent staff participate in physical interventions.
  • Conduct shift briefings and handovers.
  • Review care records, behavioural observations and incident reports.
  • Support staff supervision, competency assessments and performance management.
  • Contribute to post-incident reviews and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote safeguarding, dignity, human rights and least restrictive practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Substantial experience in complex care, learning disabilities, autism, acquired brain injury, mental health or high-risk behavioural services.
  • Strong experience working within, and preferably leading, 3:1, 4:1 or 5:1 staffing packages.
  • Significant experience managing behaviours that challenge and physical aggression.
  • Advanced practical knowledge of de-escalation and crisis prevention.
  • Experience of appropriately managed physical intervention or restraint.
  • Experience leading, supervising or managing staff during significant behavioural incidents.
  • Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans and complex risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and least restrictive practice.
  • Strong incident reporting, escalation and decision-making skills.
  • Unrestricted Right to Work in the UK. Candidates holding restricted visas cannot be accepted.

Training and Qualifications

DMI (Dynamis) trained candidates are strongly preferred. Candidates with PMVA or equivalent recognised physical intervention training may be considered, subject to review and completion of any required training and competency assessments.

The following are desirable:

  • Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • Positive Behaviour Support training.
  • Autism and learning disability training.
  • Acquired brain injury or mental health experience.
  • DoLS and Mental Capacity Act knowledge.
  • Experience conducting staff supervisions and incident reviews.
  • Experience working with clinical and multidisciplinary teams.

Salary and Benefits

  • Β£16.00 per hour.
  • Β£29,952 per year based on 36 hours per week.
  • Β£39,936 per year based on 48 hours per week.

Support for relevant Level 2–6 qualifications is being explored; this is not a confirmed entitlement.

Midlands: Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Northampton, Nottingham, Derby, Wolverhampton, Worcester, Shropshire, Shrewsbury and Lincolnshire.

Yorkshire: Doncaster, Sheffield, Hull, Huddersfield, Harrogate, Wakefield, Bradford and Leeds.
