We’re looking for a Junior Engineer (Unity & Unreal) to join our Gateshead product team and help us push the boundaries of VR, gaming, and interactive experiences. What you’ll be doing

  • Develop and implement game features using Unity (C#) and Unreal Engine (C++)
  • Work on VR and iOS projects, optimising performance and gameplay mechanics
  • Collaborate with the creative and engineering teams to bring ideas to life
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and ensure smooth, immersive gameplay experiences
  • Assist in prototyping new game mechanics and features
  • Follow best practices in coding, optimisation, and game performance

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

  • A strong interest in game development and production
  • Basic knowledge of C# (Unity) and/or C++ (Unreal Engine)
  • Understanding of game mechanics, UI, physics, and AI
  • A problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in an agile, collaborative team and take feedback constructively

Nice-to-haves (but not deal-breakers!):

  • Experience with VR (Meta Quest, Vision OS) and/or iOS development
  • Familiarity with multiplayer networking (Photon Fusion, Unreal Replication)
  • Basic knowledge of shaders, VFX, or procedural content generation
  • Understanding of lightbaking in Unity and optimising lighting for performance
