We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with young people and has direct experience in developing and delivering collaborative engagement projects with, and for, young people, particularly in community settings. They will have experience of building positive, meaningful, and long-lasting relationships with a range of people and organisations, using this to better respond to audience need. They will advocate for local young people and strive to embed their voices further into our programmes. The post-holder will need the ability to work independently, take initiative and have excellent interpersonal skills, as well as great project management skills.
This role ensures our public engagement programmes engage with a more diverse range of young people and associated organisations, such as community networks and charities. Our programmes primarily focus on engagement with Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Business (STEMB) research and innovation but often draw on creative approaches to achieve this.
Our young people’s programme engages with 13–25 year-olds, who are underrepresented in science and who live, work or study in our local boroughs (Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster). We aim to grow their confidence and connection with science by building positive, meaningful, and long-term relationships with local organisations and young people. Over the last five years we have piloted and implemented engagement approaches with STEMB as part of our work in this area. Over the coming years, our ambition is to build on these projects creating new opportunities by listening and learning from local young people and community partners. This role will help us identify other opportunities for STEMB engagement projects with young people, support on the development of training and guidance around working with young people and work towards more formal opportunities for young people in our team like work experience and apprenticeships.
This role will join Imperial’s professional and energetic Public and Community Engagement Team which delivers a strong portfolio of public engagement programmes for a range of external audiences supporting Imperial staff and students to create inclusive and accessible engagement opportunities and embedding best practice across Imperial.
