Role Outline:

The Mechanical Fitter will provide client mechanical support in the form of mechanical activities such as installation, repair and service requirements. You will support electricians on mechanical aspects of the work and help improve mechanical assets through innovation. You will go where the work is needed so will require an element of flexibility for travel from Hampshire to East Sussex.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and advise management of progress and highlight areas outside of scope of delivery.
  • Test mechanical systems, equipment, apparatus using testing devices such as vibration sensors and infra-red cameras, to ensure compatibility and safety of systems.
  • Inspect mechanical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for repair.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools, test equipment and power tools.
  • Conduct mechanical tasks such as pump replacement, screens and pipework installation, alignments, valve problem solving, installation, fault finding, and read drawings.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on pumping systems equipment.
  • Ensure contractual response times are adhered to and site team is updated.
  • Reacting to emergency and shutdown works.
  • Complete Point of Work Risk Assessments.
  • Ensure clear understanding of Risk Assessment & Method Statement.
  • Read, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings, station drawings and schematics.

Requirements:

  • Possess GCSE or an equivalent standard in English and Maths.
  • Successfully completed a modern apprenticeship or equivalent in engineering.
  • Relevant experience with engineering environment (preferred but not essential).
  • Hold: CSCS or equivalent ideally EUSR Water and Sewage (Preferred not essential).
  • PASMA (Desired but not essential).
  • IPAF (Desired but not essential).
  • Confined space – high risk (Desired but not essential).
  • Abrasive wheels (Desired but not essential).
  • Working knowledge of pipework, screens, pumps, and motors.
  • Experience in on-site engineering environment is essential.
  • Hard working, good communication skills and conscientious.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and ability to work calmly under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, be self-motivated and work part of a team.
