The role

We are seeking a full‑time Study Skills Lecturer to work in close collaboration with subject lecturers, developing and teaching study skills across a range of HE programmes from Foundation to Masters’ Level within our BSU, UoS, CCCU, OBU and Pearson partnerships. The role involves improving English language and numeracy, organisational and presentation skills, digital literacy, basic IT, reading, writing and higher‑order research skills. Flexibility to teach during weekdays, evenings and weekends is required.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing and documenting bespoke courses, digital resources, workshop plans and individual schemes of work to develop study skills in the curricula.
  • Delivering, evaluating and improving teaching to enhance the quality of teaching, learning and overall student experience in line with the GBS Learning and Teaching strategy.
  • Providing feedback on individual and class progress in academic writing and relevant study skills.
  • Giving tutorial consultations, providing constructive comments, explaining assessment gaps and suggesting improvement strategies.
  • Recording appointment details for evaluation, quality purposes and referral to other services when appropriate.
  • Engaging with VLE and research resources to facilitate students’ learning through online activities.
  • Contributing to GBS quality assurance systems and processes.

About you

  • Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area (PhD desirable).
  • Have UK HE lecturing experience in the subject area.
  • Have a successful track record of teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds on HE programmes.
  • Demonstrate experience of providing individual and group study skills support addressing identified learning needs.
  • Be willing to lead a specific literacy area (reading, writing, critical thinking, numeracy, digital skills, research skills, project and dissertation support, peer‑assisted learning).
  • Show a high level of digital literacy and advanced communication skills.

Desirable

  • Expertise in digital educational resources development, course design and curriculum development.
  • DELTA qualification.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during the probationary period and complete within three years) or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent).
