Commercial Manager to support the delivery of major long-term programmes from their Newcastle operation.

The Opportunity

This is a senior commercial leadership opportunity for an experienced Commercial Manager looking to play a key role in the successful delivery of large-scale, complex infrastructure and engineering programmes.

Working closely with senior project leadership, you will take ownership of the commercial function across major projects, leading commercial teams, managing contractual risk and ensuring strong financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will have a proven ability to manage both upstream client relationships and downstream supply chain partners , balancing commercial strategy with operational delivery on high-value programmes.

The Projects

You'll support the commercial delivery of complex, long-term engineering and infrastructure programmes for leading international developers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial delivery of major infrastructure and engineering programmes.
  • Manage and mentor Quantity Surveyors and commercial teams across multiple live projects.
  • Oversee project budgets, forecasting, cash flow and financial reporting.
  • Lead upstream commercial engagement with clients and downstream management of the supply chain.
  • Manage procurement, subcontract negotiations and final account settlements.
  • Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Support Project Directors with commercial strategy and key business decisions.
  • Ensure robust contract administration and commercial governance throughout project delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
  • Maximise project profitability while ensuring successful project outcomes.
  • Required Experience & Background
  • Proven experience as a

Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial Manager on large-scale engineering, infrastructure or major building programmes.

  • Strong track record delivering complex, high-value construction projects.
  • Demonstrable experience managing both upstream client relationships and downstream subcontractor/supply chain activities.
  • Excellent knowledge of commercial management, procurement and contract administration.
  • Strong understanding of NEC, FIDIC or other major construction contracts.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status (MRICS or equivalent) is advantageous.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary commercial teams.
  • Ability to thrive within a fast-paced, engineering-led project environment.
