We are partnered with a well-established main contractor that operates with an integrated MEP specialist capability, delivering technically complex building services solutions across major UK projects. The business has a strong reputation for commercial discipline, engineering-led delivery, and long-standing relationships with tier-one clients and consultants. Their portfolio spans high-value, technically demanding projects where mechanical services play a critical role in overall project success. Operating within structured pre-construction and delivery frameworks, the business is recognised for its ability to price, manage, and deliver sophisticated MEP packages with confidence and accuracy.
As an employer, they offer stability, clarity of leadership, and genuine respect for technical specialists. Senior professionals are given autonomy, early involvement in decision-making, and visibility across the wider business.
What They Are Looking For
The business is seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join its London-based team, working within the MEP function of a main contracting environment. The role will report into the Pre-Construction Director or Head of Estimating and work closely with commercial, design, and delivery teams. This position has been created to support a strong pipeline of upcoming work and to strengthen in-house mechanical estimating capability. The successful candidate will take ownership of mechanical pricing on complex tenders, providing accurate, competitive, and commercially robust estimates from early design through to final submission.
This role will suit an experienced estimator who enjoys being involved early in the project lifecycle, is confident engaging with senior stakeholders, and takes pride in producing high-quality technical and commercial outputs.
Why This Role Is Unique
This role offers the opportunity to operate at the intersection of main contracting and specialist MEP delivery, giving you broader project exposure than a traditional subcontractor-only position. You will play a key role in shaping bid strategy, influencing design development, and improving estimating processes across the business. It is a senior, trusted position with long-term progression for those looking to deepen their influence within pre-construction leadership.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed mechanical estimates across all project stages
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and technical information
- Lead pricing of mechanical packages on competitive tenders
- Develop cost plans, budgets, and value engineering options
- Engage with supply chain and manage subcontractor pricing
- Support bid strategy and tender adjudications
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities within designs
- Work closely with design, commercial, and delivery teams
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating systems
- Provide technical input during pre-construction and handover
Criteria for the Role
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within MEP or main contracting
- Background pricing complex mechanical building services packages
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems
- Commercially astute with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work on multiple tenders concurrently
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Relevant technical or construction qualification preferred
What’s On Offer
The role offers a salary of £70,000+, depending on experience, alongside a competitive benefits package. The business provides a stable pipeline of work, a professional pre-construction environment, and clear opportunities for long-term progression. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior mechanical estimator seeking greater influence, project exposure, and career security within a respected contractor-led environment.
