Our client, a globally respected Tier 1 International Consultancy, is seeking a Commercial Director to establish and lead a new commercial management division within the business. This role focuses on social infrastructure, high-end residential, B2R, luxury hotels, and mixed-use schemes, with the opportunity to build a division from the ground up, backed by the reputation and global platform of a leading consultancy brand. This role is aimed at an ambitious commercial leader who combines deep sector expertise, long-standing client relationships, and entrepreneurial drive. You will be empowered to shape strategy, build a team, and drive new business growth across the UK.
As Commercial Director, you will sit at the forefront of the consultancy’s expansion strategy, creating a new service line and cementing its position in key growth markets. Candidates will be highly involved in Business Development from the outset.
Key responsibilities- Division Leadership: Establish and grow a new commercial management division, setting the vision, governance, and strategy for success.
- Work Winning & Business Development: Leverage your personal network and reputation across high-end residential, hotels, and mixed-use sectors to bring new projects into the business.
- Client Engagement: Build, strengthen, and maintain relationships with major developers, investors, and hotel operators, acting as a trusted senior advisor.
- Contract & Procurement Expertise: Provide strategic guidance across UK and European procurement models, including JCT, NEC, FIDIC, and bespoke developer/operator agreements.
- Strategic Contribution: Work closely with the board to align the division’s growth with the consultancy’s wider global business plan.
- Team Building & Mentorship: Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of commercial managers and consultants, instilling best practice and technical excellence.
- Project Oversight: Oversee commercial management on flagship developments, ensuring value for money, risk management, and successful delivery.
The ideal candidate will be a well-connected commercial leader with a strong consultancy background, proven leadership ability, and a reputation for work winning.
Key requirements- 10–15 years of experience in the UK hotel, high-end residential, and mixed-use markets.
- Must have at least 5 years experience working with a Leading Consultancy business, with strong stakeholder recommendations (Turner & Townsend, AECOM, Arcadis, or similar) at Director level.
- An extensive network of relationships with developers, operators, and investors, with the ability to bring work into the business.
- Proven track record of work winning and business development, contributing to revenue growth and client retention.
- Strong technical expertise in contracts and procurement (JCT, NEC, FIDIC, bespoke agreements).
- Chartered (MRICS or equivalent) with a strong academic and professional background.
- Bachelors in Construction Management or Quantity Surveying with a minimum of 15 years post graduate experience.
- A natural leader, able to inspire teams and represent the business at board and investor level.
