COMPANY OVERVIEW

Our client is an ambitious MEP consultancy that is entering a high-growth phase, with a clear strategic focus on expanding into a technically demanding and rapidly developing market. They are recognised for combining strong building services expertise with a practical, delivery-focused approach that sets them apart from more traditional design-led consultancies. Their work supports clients across complex, large-scale construction projects, with services spanning design, technical advisory, on-site engineering and commissioning support. They are particularly known for the quality of their senior engineering talent and their ability to provide hands-on technical leadership at the point where projects are most critical — on site, during build and commissioning.

The business is in a sustained period of growth, supported by an expanding pipeline of major projects within high-value technical sectors. As part of this growth, they are investing significantly in their senior engineering team, creating excellent opportunities for experienced electrical engineers to join at a pivotal stage and play a key role in shaping the future of the consultancy. Culturally, the firm places a strong emphasis on people, performance and progression. Senior engineers are supported through structured development pathways, with a track record of promoting talented professionals into technical leadership and project management positions across the wider business.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PROJECTS

This is a site-focused senior engineering role offering exceptional exposure to large-scale, technically complex projects across high-value sectors. Rather than being office and design-bound, you will spend a significant proportion of your time on site, providing hands-on electrical engineering leadership across the build and commissioning phases of major schemes. You will work closely with main contractors, specialist subcontractors, client teams and project leadership, providing technical input that directly shapes how works are delivered, coordinated and brought into service. The role carries strong client visibility and offers genuine influence over technical outcomes, programme delivery and quality of workmanship.

Internally, the working environment is collaborative, ambitious and engineering-led. The team operates with a strong delivery mindset, supported by experienced senior leadership and a culture of knowledge sharing across the wider engineering function. There is a clear emphasis on technical excellence, problem-solving and continuous improvement. This is a strong move for senior electrical engineers who enjoy being actively involved on site rather than purely office-based, and who want to combine the structure and progression of a consultancy career with the hands-on delivery experience traditionally associated with contractor environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide senior electrical engineering leadership across major projects, from build phase through to commissioning and handover.
  • Work closely with main contractors, specialist subcontractors and client teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Review and challenge electrical design information, technical drawings and specifications, identifying and resolving issues on site.
  • Oversee installation quality, coordination and compliance with technical specifications and industry standards.
  • Support and lead commissioning activities, including witnessing of testing, system validation and handover documentation.
  • Provide technical advice and direction to project teams on electrical engineering matters across the full delivery cycle.
  • Identify and manage technical risk, supporting the timely resolution of site-based engineering issues.
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers, contributing to the development of the wider engineering function.
  • Support compliance with all relevant health, safety, quality and environmental requirements on site.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 5–10 years' experience within building services, M&E or construction environments.
  • Degree-level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline.
  • Strong electrical engineering background, with hands-on involvement in delivery, installation and commissioning.
  • Comfortable being actively involved on site rather than purely office and design-focused.
  • Strong understanding of UK electrical standards, regulations and industry best practice.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • Chartered status (or actively working towards) preferred but not essential.

WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN

This role offers a competitive base salary circa £80,000, alongside a comprehensive benefits package and a structured approach to career development. Beyond the financial package, you will be joining an ambitious consultancy at a pivotal stage of growth, with the opportunity to play a defining role in shaping the future of the business. With strong progression into senior technical and project leadership positions, this is a genuine alternative to traditional design-focused consultancy roles for senior electrical engineers who want to remain actively involved in delivery.
