We are currently seeking a Solutions Design Engineer within our UK office. GEBHARDT has been developing tailor-made solutions - from concept through to complete implementation - in the areas of unit load conveying, sorting technology, automated storage and retrieval systems, including controls, warehouse management systems and IT integration.
The role would sit within the small but expanding solutions design team, and will offer a high level of exposure to large scale automation projects with household name companies. The company and the automation sector are both growing in the UK, so this is a great opportunity to grow with a company and move forward with us bringing new innovations to market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design innovative warehouse automation and intralogistics solutions tailored to customer needs.
- Develop system concepts incorporating conveyors, ASRS, robotics, sortation systems, AMRs, goods-to-person systems, and software solutions.
- Evaluate alternative concepts and recommend optimal solutions based on technical and commercial criteria.
- Analyse customer operational data, order profiles, throughput requirements, and inventory information.
- Produce capacity calculations, material flow analysis, and operational models.
- Use data to validate and justify proposed solutions.
- Create and review layout drawings and system concepts using CAD software.
- Prepare 2D and 3D designs for internal reviews and customer presentations.
- Ensure solutions comply with applicable standards, regulations, and company design guidelines.
- Support the preparation of project budgets, equipment costs, and commercial quotations.
- Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to obtain technical and commercial information.
- Keep up to date with developments in warehouse automation, robotics, software, and intralogistics technologies.
- Support the development of standard design tools, calculation models, and best-practice processes.
- Contribute to innovation initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
Qualifications:
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Engineering, Logistics Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant industry certifications in automation, logistics, or project management.
- Experience within warehouse automation, intralogistics, logistics, manufacturing, or material handling industries.
- Experience using CAD software for engineering design.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
- Ability to interpret and analyse large data sets.
- Strong organisational and project management abilities.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
- Experience in warehouse design and operational process analysis.
- Experience using Power BI or other business intelligence tools.
- Understanding of warehouse simulation and modelling software.
- Customer-facing experience within a technical or engineering environment.
- Creative and innovative thinker.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
