Overview
Role: Maintenance Engineer
Shift: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week (with flexibility / occasional night shift cover with fair notice).
Location: Geary’s Bakeries Ltd | Barrow Upon Soar | LE12 8LD
Responsibilities
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) on bakery production equipment to minimise downtime and ensure asset reliability.
- Take ownership of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in the engineering function, ensuring maintenance activities always support food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards.
- Act as the asset care lead, working closely with operations to improve equipment reliability and drive continuous improvement.
- diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic issues.
- Repair and replace faulty parts or equipment with minimal downtime.
- Rapidly respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize production interruptions.
- Ensure all equipment meets food safety regulations (e.g., GMP, HACCP).
- Support audits and inspections by maintaining documentation and equipment standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and service records.
- Use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for scheduling and logging.
- Report incidents, maintenance activities, and improvement suggestions.
- Work closely with production supervisors, QA/QC, and other engineers.
- Train machine operators on basic maintenance and safety practices.
- Communicate effectively with vendors and service technicians.
- Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment.
- Assist in factory upgrades, process changes, and layout modifications.
- Evaluate equipment for obsolescence and recommend replacements.

About You

What we’re looking for:
- Recognised level 3 engineering qualification (electrical, mechanical, or multi-skilled).
- Strong knowledge of PPM systems and asset care within a fast-paced FMCG environment.
- Good understanding of GMP, food safety, and hygiene standards.
- Experience with Holistech CMMS or similar beneficial.
- Flexible approach to working hours
Desirable but not essential:
- Previous experience in the food manufacturing or bakery sector preferred.
