The Opportunity
Our client is a well-established engineering company delivering a range of projects within the water and wastewater sector.
Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Design & Project Engineer to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and self-sufficient engineer with experience in the design and delivery of mechanical systems within the water and/or wastewater industry.
The successful candidate will be capable of independently delivering mechanical design packages from concept through to commissioning and final handover, while also working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The role would also suit an experienced engineer with the capability and ambition to take on a Lead Design Engineer position, with responsibility for overseeing designs and leading technical discussions with clients and project stakeholders on behalf of the business.
The Role
Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, you will be involved in projects across the full project lifecycle, including concept design, tendering, detailed design, construction, commissioning and final handover.
Key responsibilities will include
- Delivering mechanical design packages from concept through to commissioning and handover.
- Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations, company procedures and client asset standards.
- Collaborating with other engineering disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
- Understanding client requirements as defined within project contracts and developing appropriate engineering solutions.
- Selecting mechanical equipment and leading technical discussions with suppliers and the wider supply chain.
- Preparing hydraulic calculations for gravity and pumped systems.
- Producing detailed equipment schedules.
- Participating in design and safety studies, including HAZOP, HAZCON and HAZCOMM.
- Working closely with the CAD team to produce detailed design drawings and models.
- Reviewing internal and external technical documentation to ensure compliance with project scopes and objectives.
- Supporting project teams during construction and commissioning, including site visits and virtual meetings.
- Leading technical discussions with clients and stakeholders where required.
- Supporting the successful delivery of projects to the required standards, programme and quality expectations.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a proactive and technically capable engineer who is comfortable working independently and managing their own workload.
You will have experience in the design and/or delivery of mechanical systems within the water and/or wastewater industry, together with the communication skills required to work effectively with clients, colleagues, contractors and suppliers.
You will also have the technical capability to take ownership of design packages and, where appropriate, step into a lead engineering capacity.
Essential Requirements
- HNC or degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in the design and/or delivery of projects within the water and/or wastewater industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The right to work in the UK.
