Principal Instrument Engineer Location: Manchester, with hybrid working
Contract: Until December 2027
Rate: Β£550-Β£650 per day, depending on experience and IR35 assessment
Hours: 40 hours per week GRS is seeking a Principal Instrument Engineer for a long-term contract within a multidisciplinary process-engineering environment. The position combines hands-on technical delivery with discipline leadership, resource coordination and responsibility for quality, programme and engineering interfaces. Responsibilities Deliver instrumentation and control engineering throughout the full project lifecycle.
Lead technical resources and coordinate discipline outputs.
Produce, check and approve engineering documentation.
Specify and design Safety Instrumented Systems.
Manage interfaces between engineering and project-delivery teams.
Monitor budgets, resources, progress, risks and changes.
Mentor engineers and support their professional development.
Ensure compliance with UK regulations, standards and project procedures. Requirements Extensive instrumentation and control design experience in water, process, energy or another regulated industry.
Strong knowledge of IEC 61511 and IEC 61508.
Experience of process plants and potentially explosive environments.
Knowledge of ATEX, PED, machinery, low-voltage and EMC requirements.
Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
Chartered or Incorporated status is strongly preferred.
Proven technical leadership, checking and approval experience.
Strong stakeholder-management and reporting skills. Outside-IR35 engagement may be considered subject to formal assessment and supporting documentation. TPBN1_UKTJ
