Freelance Process Engineer – Water Treatment Contract | Outside IR35 Potential | Hybrid Working

We’re currently supporting a major AMP programme within the UK water sector and are looking to engage an experienced Freelance Process Engineer to support a growing portfolio of clean water infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects focused on improving water resilience, treatment performance, and environmental sustainability across the East of England.

The Role

You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary design teams to develop and deliver high-quality process engineering solutions across a range of water treatment schemes. Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Process design calculations
  • Water quality and chemical dosing calculations
  • Hydraulic and mass balance calculations
  • Production of PFDs and P&IDs
  • Development of control philosophies
  • DSEAR / COSHH assessments
  • HAZOP participation and reporting
  • Technical review of process equipment
  • Collaboration with SCADA, commissioning, and modelling teams
  • Supporting process safety and engineering compliance throughout design delivery

What We’re Looking For

We’re keen to speak with engineers who have:

  • Strong experience within UK water/wastewater projects
  • Background in clean water treatment/process engineering
  • Experience producing process calculations and design documentation
  • Knowledge of UK water industry standards and regulations
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary delivery teams
  • Previous experience on AMP programmes preferred
