We’re looking for a proactive, hands-on IT Manager to take full ownership of our internal IT operations, infrastructure, organisational security, and day-to-day technical operations. Following a period of rapid growth—including revenues of £191 million in FY26—Gear4music is scaling its multi-site footprint across both the UK and Europe. This expansion creates a significant opportunity for a dynamic IT professional to shape and secure our internal technology landscape. This role is ideal for a versatile generalist. You will be entirely comfortable driving high-level infrastructure planning for new buildings and facilities, but equally happy rolling up your sleeves to troubleshoot physical hardware and assist with front-line issues.
Reporting into senior leadership, you will manage our internal IT infrastructure to ensure it is resilient, secure, and scalable. From optimising core cloud productivity suites to maintaining physical security systems, you will play a central role in supporting our teams and safeguarding our internal data at scale.
Key Responsibilities- Infrastructure & Network Management
- Maintain and optimize multi-site connectivity, including firewall configurations, VPNs, and site-to-site Wi-Fi performance.
- Oversee the business communication suite, including VOIP telephony systems and mobile account management.
- Manage the core cloud productivity suite, including directory services, email flow, file-sharing permissions, and license optimization.
- Take responsibility for Identity and Access Management (IAM) across all company software and hardware.
- Security & Compliance (Physical & Digital)
- Take full ownership of physical security systems, including biometric access control and CCTV networks across all sites.
- Act as a primary key holder and the first point of contact for out-of-hours alarm escalations.
- Act as the primary lead for Organizational Security, actively defending against human-risk vulnerabilities such as phishing, email impersonation, and identity theft by managing necessary tools and staff training.
- Line manage and support the IT Support Technician, ensuring high standards for ticket resolution and user satisfaction.
- Ensure the reliability of business-critical operational hardware, including industrial labeling equipment and warehouse provisioning stations.
- Oversee the end-to-end provisioning process for all staff hardware (Laptops, Desktops, and Developer-spec machines).
- Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Plan Ownership: Accountable for the maintenance and regular testing of the IT Disaster Recovery Plan, including data backup integrity, off-site storage, and "failover" procedures for critical sites.
- Incident Response: Lead the technical response during major outages (e.g., total loss of connectivity or hardware failure).
- Risk Assessment: Regularly audit internal systems to identify "Single Points of Failure" within the physical infrastructure landscape and propose redundancy solutions.
- Escalation Management: Serve as a key point of technical escalation for critical system failures, ensuring stakeholders are kept informed of recovery timelines.
- Manage the IT budget and procurement process for all hardware and software.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external technical vendors and service providers (e.g., PDQ terminals).
- Conduct regular audits of software subscriptions to ensure cost-efficiency and security compliance.
- Strong experience managing multi-site infrastructure and network security in fast-paced organizations.
- Proven background in implementing and maintaining business-wide security protocols (both physical and digital).
- Deep understanding of enterprise cloud administration and identity management (IAM).
- Experience leading, mentoring, or supporting junior IT staff.
- Comfortable working across both physical hardware and digital infrastructure environments.
- Able to manage priorities independently and make informed, cost-effective technical purchasing decisions.
- Familiarity with warehouse, logistics, or operational technology environments.
- Experience with CCTV, biometric access control systems, or broader physical security infrastructure.
- Strong working knowledge of disaster recovery planning and business continuity frameworks.
