Customer Service Advisor – Fixed Term Contract

Looking for a job for the next few months?

Join Gear4music during our busiest and most exciting time of year. We’re looking for friendly, reliable and enthusiastic people to join our Customer Service team on a fixed-term contract until February, helping us deliver an excellent experience throughout the peak season.

Our Story

As one of the fastest-growing retailers of musical instruments and equipment, Gear4music is proud to be at the forefront of the music industry.

We are more than just a retailer - we are a community of music enthusiasts committed to providing the best possible online shopping experience for our customers. Our passion for music drives us to keep innovating and improving, and we’re always looking for talented people who share our enthusiasm.

Who You Are

You’re passionate about delivering a great customer experience and enjoy helping people find the right products for their needs.

Ideally, you’ll have an interest in musical instruments and equipment. You might play bass in a rock band, perform as first violin in an orchestra, DJ at weekends, produce music at home or simply have a genuine enthusiasm for music.

Above all, you’ll be professional, friendly and reliable, with the confidence to communicate clearly with customers.

What You’ll Do

As part of our Customer Service team, you’ll provide friendly, knowledgeable and professional support during our busy peak season.

Most of your time will be spent answering inbound calls, alongside responding to email enquiries. You’ll help customers with questions about a wide range of musical instruments, equipment and related products, ensuring they receive the excellent service and advice they expect from Gear4music.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Answer inbound customer calls and respond to occasional email enquiries
  • Provide friendly, professional and helpful advice about musical instruments, equipment and related products
  • Build rapport with customers and understand their individual needs
  • Resolve customer queries and more challenging enquiries, escalating issues when appropriate
  • Develop your product knowledge and become a valued member of our specialist Customer Service team
  • Support the team in delivering an excellent customer experience throughout our busiest trading period

What We’re Looking For

We have an idea of the experience and skills that would work well in this role, but we know great people come from many different backgrounds. If you’re excited about the opportunity but don’t meet every requirement, we’d still encourage you to apply. You may have exactly the qualities we’re looking for.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A confident and professional telephone manner
  • The ability to quickly build rapport with customers
  • Previous experience in a customer service or customer-facing environment
  • Good computer skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office
  • An interest in and appreciation of music
  • Knowledge of musical instruments and equipment, although this is not essential
  • A reliable and positive approach
  • A genuine commitment to providing first-class customer service
  • Availability to work with us on a fixed-term basis until February

Contract, Location and Working Hours

This is a fixed-term contract until February, created to support our Customer Service team during the busy peak season. The role has the potential to be made permanent after this date depending on the candidate and company requirements.

The role is Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:30pm, with occasional weekend working as required.

What We’ll Give You

Alongside the opportunity to work with a fantastic group of talented people, you’ll have access to a well-rounded benefits package that supports your development and wellbeing:

  • A generous discount across our full range of music and home-entertainment products
  • An Employee Assistance Programme offering caring and compassionate support 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • Access to 30 qualified Mental Health First Aiders across the business
  • Free car parking and access to electric-vehicle charging points
  • A modern office with an onsite café and bar, where we hold regular social events
  • Access to an onsite gym and physiotherapy services with Gear4music discounts and perks
  • A relaxed dress code—and a great coffee machine

Additional benefits include our employee referral scheme, employer pension scheme, corporate eyecare vouchers, cycle-to-work scheme, company sick pay scheme, enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay, annual flu vaccinations, and access to our 26-day-per-year working-from-home policy where the role permits.

We have an open, collaborative and friendly culture, with a supportive environment in which people can learn, grow and develop their careers.

If you’re looking for a role over the next few months and would enjoy helping customers during our busiest season, we’d love to hear from you.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

If you require any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know. A member of our friendly recruitment team will contact you to discuss your needs and ensure appropriate arrangements are made.
