Put simply, this role is about bringing people together and making sure a complex HVDC engineering programme gets delivered successfully. Our HVDC Reference Solutions team is developing more standardised, repeatable solutions that can be reused across future projects and tenders – helping reduce unnecessary re-engineering, improve consistency and make delivery more efficient.

The HVDC Programme Manager will lead the delivery of a defined portfolio of HVDC Reference Solutions, bringing together multidisciplinary teams to create scalable, repeatable solutions for use across tendering and project execution. You will take ownership of a complex programme of engineering work, providing the organisation, leadership and delivery focus needed to bring together a geographically dispersed matrix team.

How You Will Make a Difference:

  • Leading the delivery of a defined HVDC Reference Solutions portfolio, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities from planning through to completion.
  • Managing a geographically dispersed matrix team, setting priorities, coordinating resources, monitoring progress and driving delivery against agreed objectives.
  • Partnering with Technical Leads to combine strong technical direction with effective programme governance, organisation and execution.
  • Driving the deployment and continuous improvement of repeatable HVDC reference solutions across tendering and project execution.
  • Collaborating across Engineering, Tendering, Projects, Sourcing, NPI and other key functions to align priorities, resolve challenges and support effective implementation.
  • Improving engineering reuse, delivery efficiency, cost and lead-time performance by embedding lessons learned and promoting greater standardisation.
  • Identifying programme risks, dependencies and opportunities, bringing stakeholders together to resolve issues and maintain delivery momentum.

Special Role Requirements:

  • Some travel within the UK and internationally may be required to support business, project and stakeholder needs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across different locations and time zones.

Skills for Success:

  • You should be a confident engineering and programme leader who can bring structure to complex work, influence across a matrix organisation and drive delivery in an environment where processes and ways of working continue to evolve.
  • A strong understanding of HVDC technology and engineering environments, with the credibility to work effectively alongside experienced technical specialists.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering programmes, projects or scopes within HVDC, power transmission or a similarly complex engineering environment.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the confidence to establish priorities, create structure and maintain momentum across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder and commercial awareness, with an understanding of how engineering decisions affect cost, lead time, delivery performance and competitiveness.
