The Senior Electrical Engineer is one of the technical experts responsible for ensuring HVDC converter valves are designed safely, efficiently, and reliably. You don't just create designs—you define engineering standards, review critical technical decisions, mentor other engineers, support testing, and influence the future of HVDC technology. This is not a typical design engineer role. It is a ‘technical authority’ position where the engineer is expected to guide projects globally, make key engineering decisions, and ensure the highest technical standards across the business.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Conceptual or theoretical activities related to translating users' needs into the definition of a system, its architecture and design through an iterative process that results in an effective operational system and demands an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

  • MANDATORY: Experience with HVDC and knowledge of valve converters.
  • Significant and demonstrated experience in HVDC / valve converters is required. Candidates with less hands-on experience may also be considered on an exceptional basis.
  • Electrical Engineering degree with an exceptional knowledge of electrical design and power distribution.
  • Experience working on very large-scale projects.
  • Senior-level profile with extensive technical expertise.
  • The candidate will be responsible for signing off on the electrical designs.
  • This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/ Technology & Interdisciplinary Engineering.
  • Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university (or college certification with relevant experience).
