For Grid Solutions, Offshore HVDC represents a significant pillar for the business. At Grid System Integration (GSI), we are dedicated to helping our customers reach very ambitious renewable energy targets through the delivery of our HVDC Solutions.

Grid Solutions is looking for a Project Director who will be responsible for project on-time delivery, profit & loss accountability, and customer satisfaction from the last stages of tendering, through handover to execution and up to receipt of the Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC). The Project Director will provide leadership to strategically manage risks & opportunities and ensure that the project follows high standards in terms of quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements. They will coordinate with the consortium partner to ensure a smooth delivery of the consortium scope for the customer.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Execution phase for the GE scope of a large HVDC Project, typically of $1B+.
  • Deliver on Environmental Health & Safety (‘EHS’), On-Time-Delivery (‘OTD’) and financial objectives (sales, margin, billing, cash) for the GE scope.
  • Ensure Project Reviews governance in line with GE Grid Solutions Operating rhythm.
  • Lead & coach a multi-cultural cross-functional project team composed of Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls (cost & planning), Finance, Contract Management.
  • Have full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility for the project and drive budget ownership with accountability throughout the project team.
  • Develop and implement the overall strategy for the execution of the project to achieve the project performance goals.
  • Represent GE towards the customer; control and manage this interface and relationship.
  • Set up and secure the necessary resources for the execution of the project. Support the organization of the project team. Coordinate with consortium partner.
  • Constantly monitor and report the necessary key performance indicators (KPI). Take immediate actions and decisions to guarantee financial, time, quality and safety performance to maximize project goals achievements.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor the Project Quality Plan, Procedures, EHS Plan. Ensure best compliance with specification at lowest final cost.
  • Define the strategy for managing claims and direct actions accordingly.
  • Define a Risk Management Plan. Constantly update and review the risk and opportunities of the Project.
  • Develop and monitor the Master Time Schedule, manage Project float to ensure timely completion of the Project.
  • Exercise commercial and finance controls during the execution of the project with regular reporting and forecasting of project metrics and KPIs.
  • Ensure the coordination of technical support/engineering, manufacturing/supply and onsite construction resources.
  • Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes at GSI level including but not limited to the Project Management Handbook (PMH).
  • Report or resolve any non-conformances to process in a timely manner and use Lessons Learnt process and database as a way to learn from and further record return of experience to benefit other projects.
  • Lead the project consortium, set up a regular operating rhythm and governance with our partner to meet the project contractual requirements.
  • Align with partner on Key targets and metrics to monitor and assess performance throughout the project lifetime.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college, preferably a technical degree.
  • Major experience in managing large and complex turnkey projects (+$500M minimum), preferably in the T&D, Power or Renewable Energy industry.
  • Operations / Project Portfolio management experience (EPC projects).
  • Experience in Consortium management on Large and Complex Projects.
  • Knowledgeable in contract management, negotiation strategies, risk and opportunity management.

  • Great interpersonal skills, embodying GE leadership behaviours: Humility, Customer Focus, and Transparency.
  • Proven ability, knowledge and experience covering the full project management cycle: integration management, planning, cost control, procurement, risk management, contract management, construction management.
  • Technical knowledge in electrical grids and ideally power electronics / HVDC will be an advantage.
  • Experience in Turnkey / offshore contracts with civil works would also be an advantage.
  • High-energy, self-motivated, confident leader willing to take decisions and lead the project team by example.
  • Strong attention to details and technicalities and ability to contribute to issue resolution.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as and when required.
  • Fluent in English.
