The Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) within GA Labs Stafford is an essential tool used to model power system schemes to demonstrate and test protection operation for both internal and external customers. As the successful RTDS engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and running the Real Time Digital Simulator. You will also be responsible for maintaining the IEC17025 accreditation that the facility currently possesses.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrable experience of power system simulation.
  • Significantly demonstrable experience of modelling of power system components.
  • Knowledge of the RTDS hardware.
  • Proven track record of project planning.
  • Knowledge of power system mathematics.
  • Experience of performing power system fault analysis.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principal forms of power system protection.
  • Knowledge of the Real Time Simulator including RTDS Test cases, RTDS Runtime console, RTDS scripts.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to problem solve, find solutions with minimum support and supervision.
  • Ability to innovate, evolve and enhance processes.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and respond effectively to demanding customer requests.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Self-starter, energising, results orientated and able to multi-task.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of IEC17025.
  • Knowledge of GE protection products.
  • Knowledge of the basics of Microsoft Server operation and computer network functionality, particularly DHCP and DNS services.
