Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users' needs. The discipline executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs, and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. This process proceeds from concept to production to operation.

Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness, etc.).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including work such as soil mechanics, seismic analysis, and foundations for GE supplied equipment.
  • Specifies the design and the requirements for all underground and above ground civil works, and specifies the civil contractor for the same (leveling, foundations, slabs, etc.).
  • Includes CW cost estimating, constructability assessments and sequencing, understanding of local civil codes and standards, and the application of structural steel, civil, and geotechnical engineering principles.
  • Conducts analysis and design of industrial structures that support or resist static and dynamic loads.
  • Structural engineering typically includes design and analysis of structures composed of materials such as Structural Steel, Reinforced Concrete, Prestressed Concrete, Wood Framing, and Masonry to account for code required loads and load combinations to ensure adequacy of the structure against failure.
  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development.
  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
