Job Description Summary

Job Description Summary: The Services Specialist will plan, coordinate, and execute on-site services, maintenance, and logistical activities to support the effective operation, maintenance, and refurbishment of customer equipment.

Role Overview

The Services Specialist will plan, coordinate, and execute on-site services, maintenance, and logistical activities to support the effective operation, maintenance, and refurbishment of customer equipment. You will be responsible for managing the resources, logistics, and execution required to deliver maintenance and service activities at customer sites. This includes both preventive and remedial maintenance, field service engineering support, and the management of maintenance facilities to ensure sold and existing products operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. The role contributes directly to departmental operations through effective planning and execution, working within established functional practices and procedures. While the role operates with a degree of autonomy, it is primarily execution-focused, requiring sound judgment and decision-making within defined operating disciplines, with guidance available as needed to ensure high-quality service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Your Impact

  • Deliver all on-site life extension, repair, inspection, and maintenance service activities at customer sites for HV Switchgear.
  • Supervise HV Switchgear installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities, ensuring full compliance with GE health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Manage day-to-day site operations and field resources to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Conduct investigative site visits and produce detailed reports on equipment condition, failures, and maintenance requirements.
  • Prepare and issue RAMS, NCRs, TQs, and site instructions, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to GE quality governance.
  • Lead and develop HV Switchgear service teams, including subcontractors, technicians, and apprentices, fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the primary interface between customers, product and service units, and project teams, providing clear progress reporting and driving resolution of technical or project issues.

What Success Looks Like In This Role

The ideal candidate is a hands-on HV Switchgear services leader with strong substation experience, capable of managing complex on-site operations, leading teams, and delivering high-quality service safely across multiple customer sites with:

  • Extensive experience in HV Switchgear on-site services, including installation, commissioning, maintenance, and life-extension activities within substations.
  • A proven background as a substation secondary wireman, with solid knowledge of primary plant construction and installation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including IOSH Managing Safely and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
  • Demonstrated site and project management capability, with the ability to plan, document, and execute work while managing resources, subcontractors, and schedules.
  • Proactive, adaptable professional with strong communication and problem-solving skills, comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and travelling extensively across the UK and overseas.
