Role Overview: As a Senior Control and Protection Verification & Validation Product Specialist, you will work across the Engineering Delivery, NPI, and Product Care functions, reporting directly to the Head of Control and Protection Verification & Validation. Your responsibilities include developing departmental talent, managing engineering processes, providing technical guidance and mentorship, driving consistent design practices, and establishing global project implementation processes. You will also provide technical solutions aligned with the needs of NPI, Product Care, and Project Delivery.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Providing strategic and tactical guidance for HVDC Control and Protection System Verification and Validation, in collaboration with Grid and HVDC technology groups.
- Establishing processes to assess, review, and document testing requirements and boundaries for each project, ensuring maximum verification before factory departure.
- Leading the creation of plans, procedures, and specifications for system tests, factory acceptance tests, and commissioning tests at site.
- Developing, maintaining, and preparing Test Management Plans and Solutions.
- Participating from the requirements phase to ensure requirements are SMART and testable.
- Coordinating HVDC testing and validation processes from lab testing through to customer acceptance.
- Maintaining oversight of HVDC project life cycles to mitigate product development risks by defining testing needs to validate requirements.
- Validating processes and test specifications technically.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with other HVDC Control & Protection teams.
- Ensuring risk mitigation in product plans to prevent quality issues with new technologies.
- Enforcing engineering discipline and process adherence across all work tasks through training and reviews.
- Reviewing skills within the validation and verification department and addressing any skills gaps through training and mentoring.
- Serving as an approver for technical reviews and project milestones.
- Supporting the development of new IP strategies related to technology innovation.
- Communicating with customers to define quality and testing expectations from project initiation to final sign-off.
- Representing the team in industry working groups as a key contributor.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Significant experience in power generation, system design, and control system operation.
- Technical leadership experience.
- Experience with verification and validation of HVDC control systems.
- Proficiency in HVDC control, protection, and sequencing strategies.
- Competency in PSCAD, MATLAB-SIMULINK, and RTDS applications.
- Experience with HVDC dynamic performance studies.
- Proven leadership in complex system engineering environments.
- Knowledge of control cubicle diagrams, field cabling, relays, switchgear, IEDs, and DCS.
- Understanding of test-driven design techniques and requirements management.
- Familiarity with change control and issue tracking tools such as Jira.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
