Job Description Summary: Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition. The Secondary Design Manager will lead a geographically diverse team of designers, sub contractors, engineers and project teams working on protection and control schematics and substation equipment. The role provides a high level overview of design and interface with various teams throughout the project cycle.
Responsibilities
- The Secondary Design Manager is the technical guarantor of the proper performance of design works within their field, ensuring compliance with budget (man-days), deadlines, and quality in line with customer expectation, while promoting ease of installation, operation and maintenance of the system.
- Plan basic and detailed design activities, manage and oversee detailed execution progress, and coordinate delivery of required engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing and site erection, based on Customer specifications and internal standards.
- Define the scope of work and time schedule for their field of activity.
- Establish, based on tender and contract analysis and project strategy, the list of documents to produce.
- Evaluate engineering workload and deliverables dates with PEM or PM and commit to budget and delivery timelines.
- Ensure on-time delivery of design, including Partner documents, to stakeholders with suitable quality.
- Anticipate and mitigate delivery issues and recommend changes.
- Lead and coordinate their design team; monitor detailed execution progress and short-term planning.
- Request technical coordination meetings with partners or key suppliers when appropriate to synchronize designs.
- Monitor design time spent in man-hours on relevant activities; follow project strategy and highlight scope or design changes (data for claims, VO, etc.).
- Inform PEM / PM of design issues and propose solutions, following through to resolution.
- Analyze customer technical requirements and ensure compliance with customer requirements.
- Represent customer interests in design decisions at PM request; coordinate with Partners on customer technical comments.
- Seek cost optimization across design phases, especially during basic design; ensure technical consistency of the design area and check design subcontractor deliverables.
Qualifications & Skills
- Relevant degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, depending on the field of activity.
- Years of engineering experience in related activity/discipline; preferably in project & EPC environments in T&D, Power Gen, or Oil & Gas, or 2 to 4 medium-sized projects as Lead Engineer.
- Experience with project technical management processes in multi-disciplinary teams with multiple interfaces.
- Experience managing externally subcontracted design work packages of varying sizes.
- Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution industry.
